Spend a morning playing, creating and discovering with your child at Little Days Out, South Bank’s free children’s program. Held amid the shady trees of the South Bank Parklands, Little Days Out is a series of free children’s workshops designed to suit all interests and skill levels. It’s on every Thursday, with locations and activities changing each week, so there’s always something new to enjoy!

UNTAPPED

Untapped is a high-octane dance, music & comedy experience for the whole family, directed and co-choreographed by Andrew Fee (Creator of RAW Dance) and Jack Chambers (So You Think You Can Dance, Singin’ in the Rain). Featuring 3 male and 2 female dancers, a beatboxer and percussionist, it’s an adrenaline-fueled hour of dance entertainment that will leave you breathless.

BUDDHA BIRTH DAY FESTIVAL

Since 1997 the Buddha Birth Day Festival has grown into one of Queensland’s most prestigious cultural events attracting in excess of 200,000 visitors and is now recognized as the largest annual Buddhist Birth Day Festival in the world. This year the Buddha Birth Day Festival is proud to be celebrating its 20th anniversary at The Parklands at Southbank. The festival continues to showcase the diversity of Australia’s multicultural society, as visitors can enjoy a relaxed environment surrounded by a range of displays, entertained by a variety of performances and experience many cultural customs and activities and vegetarian food. The Medibank Feel Good Program has been designed to suit all fitness levels, with classes ranging from low impact to high energy options. Bubacise is a class to strengthen and tone new mums as well as introduce movement and motor development in bubs. STICKS STONES BROKEN BONES

With their puppets of flying chickens, brain transplants and sneaky ninjas – Bunk Puppets have captivated international acclaim for their inventive approach to shadow puppetry. In Sticks Stones Broken Bones a dozen shadow puppet characters are assembled on the spot out of household items, old toys, bits of fluff and bits of card, and then transformed into live cartoons on screen. With all of the puppetry performed in front of the screen, the audience gets a cheeky peek into how the magic is made. It’s like watching a live cartoon show get made up right before your eyes.

The Ipswich Festival is the city’s annual art and cultural celebration showcasing nationally acclaimed artists and emerging local talents through the presentation of specialised community activities and diverse cultural and artistic programs. MATHAMAZING

Families can count on a fun day out with the opening of the new Mathamazing exhibition at Queensland Museum’s Sciencentre. Playfully connecting maths to everyday life, the 22 interactive activities — designed to inspire mathematical curiosity and confidence — add up to a whole lot of fun. Visitors will be able to challenge their lateral thinking and topology as they untangle themselves from handcuffs in the Manacle, solve giant floor puzzles, work their way through mazes, test their reaction time, work out the mass of an unknown object, build an arch that won’t collapse, and explore fractals on a touchscreen.

KIDS EXHIBITION // KATE BEYNON: FRIENDLY BEASTS
Now thru to Sunday October 22 // GOMA, Children’s Art Centre, Stanley Place, Cultural Precinct, South Bank

Kate Beynon draws on multiple visual traditions as the foundation for her artworks, including Western and Eastern comic books, mythology, animation, film, graffiti, calligraphy and fashion. In ‘Friendly Beasts’, Kate Beynon brings to life four hybrid figures who are inspired by mythological figures, deities, theatrical masks and supernatural creatures. Young visitors will meet these benevolent friends – Blue Shaman, Lotus Monkey, Tu-Dao Dog and Gorgon Girl – who each have their own traits and personalities and aim to promote imagination, creative expression and fun.
