The first of its kind with crazy components and ridiculous obstacles, ROC Race features the menacing Sweeper, the infamous Wrecking Ball, the hilariously challenging Jump Balls, and the Hippo, a towering 4-story tall water slide – among many others! IPSWICH FESTIVAL

The Ipswich Festival is the city’s annual art and cultural celebration showcasing nationally acclaimed artists and emerging local talents through the presentation of specialised community activities and diverse cultural and artistic programs. Festivities commence on Thursday 4 May and continue with a 10 day program of theatre, exhibitions, visual and public art, music, and family focused entertainment until Sunday 14th May.

MOVIES IN THE PARK // MOTHER’S DAY SPECIAL
Saturday May 13 at 6pm & 8.15pm // Roma Street Parkland, 1 Parkland Blvd, Brisbane City

Movies in the Park returns with a special Mother’s Day screening of two “chick flicks” and a great line up of food trucks. Notting Hill will be screening at 6pm with the original classic Dirty Dancing following at around 8.15pm. Food trucks include My Morning Glory Coffee, Micasa, Jake’s Grill, Vira Lata, Rolling Stone Pizza, Bugsy’s Creamy Creations, Bruce the Food Truck and Spud the Food Truck.

MOTHER’S DAY CLASSIC
Sunday May 14 from 6am // South Bank Parklands, Cultural Forecourt, Brisbane

Since its inception on the Gold Coast in 2009, the Mother’s Day Classic has continued to grow with around 4000 people participating in 2016. The event is run entirely by volunteers and aims to fund the research that is key to achieving NBCF’s goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. The event becomes bigger every year and has an amazing atmosphere – put this on your to-do list this mother’s day weekend!

MATHAMAZING

Families can count on a fun day out with the opening of the new Mathamazing exhibition at Queensland Museum’s Sciencentre. Playfully connecting maths to everyday life, the 22 interactive activities — designed to inspire mathematical curiosity and confidence — add up to a whole lot of fun. Visitors will be able to challenge their lateral thinking and topology as they untangle themselves from handcuffs in the Manacle, solve giant floor puzzles, work their way through mazes, test their reaction time, work out the mass of an unknown object, build an arch that won’t collapse, and explore fractals on a touchscreen.

KIDS EXHIBITION // KATE BEYNON: FRIENDLY BEASTS

Kate Beynon draws on multiple visual traditions as the foundation for her artworks, including Western and Eastern comic books, mythology, animation, film, graffiti, calligraphy and fashion. In ‘Friendly Beasts’, Kate Beynon brings to life four hybrid figures who are inspired by mythological figures, deities, theatrical masks and supernatural creatures. Young visitors will meet these benevolent friends – Blue Shaman, Lotus Monkey, Tu-Dao Dog and Gorgon Girl – who each have their own traits and personalities and aim to promote imagination, creative expression and fun.
