Leontes quickly becomes irrationally jealous of the friendly relationship between his very pregnant wife and former best friend – certain the child his wife is carrying is the product of their torrid affair. Polixenes gets word of Leontes plot to kill him and escapes home to Bohemia, while Hermione, although innocent, is banished to jail where she gives birth to a baby girl, Perdita, whom Leontes’ henchman leaves for dead out in the Bohemian desert. Perdita is rescued by an old shepherd who raises her as his daughter. As the years pass, Perdita grows into a beautiful woman who catches the eye of King Polixenes’s son Prince Florizel, and the saga continues.
