PERCEPTION DECEPTION

Bend your brain and fool your senses with optical illusions and tricks on display at Queensland Museum & Sciencentre. The centre will play host to a range of fascinating and interactive scientific experiences as part of the Perception Deception travelling exhibition, created by Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre in Canberra. Suitable for ages 10 and up, Perception Deception is a collection of 28 hands-on exhibits and 60 interactive multimedia experiences that challenge our sensory signals to create our perception of the things and people around us.

In this unique experience inspired by Ludus Magnus (the largest and most prestigious gladiator school in all of Ancient Rome), undergo mini boot camp sessions to learn how to train and fight like a gladiator and discover what it takes to become a master of the sword. Try on costumes before striking a pose in front of our Colosseum backdrop, construct and decorate your own gladiator helmet to take home. This is an engaging, fun way to learn about history. Hendra’s The Racing Cafe has the perfect solution for those budding chefs looking for something to do this September school holiday. For the first time, the local Hendra cafe will host culinary sessions for all those mini masterchefs in Brisbane. Held between 19 – 21 September, the active learning cooking sessions are designed for children aged seven to 12-years-old. There will be qualified chefs running the sessions, which are aimed to educate and entertain about cooking simple, wholesome meals.

Kate Beynon draws on multiple visual traditions as the foundation for her artworks, including Western and Eastern comic books, mythology, animation, film, graffiti, calligraphy and fashion. In ‘Friendly Beasts’, Kate Beynon brings to life four hybrid figures who are inspired by mythological figures, deities, theatrical masks and supernatural creatures. Young visitors will meet these benevolent friends – Blue Shaman, Lotus Monkey, Tu-Dao Dog and Gorgon Girl – who each have their own traits and personalities and aim to promote imagination, creative expression and fun.
