Wednesday May 10 at 6pm // The Arts Centre Gold Coast, Arts Theatre, 135 Bundall Rd, Surfers Paradise

Set in a beautiful yet chaotic model kit world, Model Citizens seamlessly blends the risk, beauty and rawness of acrobatic circus with pumping live music, stunning lighting, breathtaking physical improbability and no shortage of absurdity. Breaking conventions of scale, oversized everyday objects become an intriguing world of possibilities for the all-human ensemble – as these enlarged set pieces offer new life as exciting and unexpected circus equipment. Imagine hand standing on the top of an upright giant peg or juggling whilst balanced on an over-sized stack of weighing scales.

In Hairspray, its 1962, the ’50s are out and change is in the air. Baltimore’s Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, has only one passion – to dance. This musical features an original score by Marc Shaiman and is expertly played by CAC’s very own College Musical Orchestra, conducted by Liz Smith. Their songs take Tracy from the soundstage of a ’60s-style dance show to the streets of Baltimore to a downtown rhythm and blues record shop. Directed by Kirsty Terry and performed by the talented cast from the Secondary Campus, this production will have you laughing in your seats and tapping your toes.
