Making Mum’s Day

If you’ve been living under a rock, guess what? Mother’s Day is only a few short sleeps away! Hooray! It’s the one day of the year that we mums should be ordering breakfast in bed and ordering our offspring to give us shoulder and/or feet massages, right?! Here are what some local mums have told haven they are hoping for this Mother’s Day.

haven magazine editor Belinda, of Mt Cotton (Bel’s been a mum for almost 11 years, and has two daughters): “I’m expecting a blue Tiffany box this Sunday, as it’s been a very welcome Mother’s Day tradition in our house for years and years now. But what I’d really love on Sunday is for the Laundry Fairy to visit. That or just two days off, on holidays by myself, near a beach so I can read and sleep.”

haven magazine account manager Tracey, of Carrara (Tracey’s been a mum for 10 glorious years, and has one son who just turned 10): “My hubby and son spoil me every year with flowers, a card from each filled with loving messages, gifts from the Mother’s Day stall at school and either lunch or breakfast out. Like most people, I would love a winning lotto ticket!”

haven magazine magician Bec, of Coomera (Bec’s been a mum for 9 years and has two daughters): “I’ll probably get creams and candles, maybe even a coffee mug and handmade cards. I would love a day off from chores and to be spoiled. I’m thinking breakfast in bed, being taken out for a picnic lunch with bubbles and good company, and then maybe even a pedicure in the afternoon followed by a nap.”

haven magazine art director Emma, of Burleigh Waters (Emma’s been a mum for 16 years, and has two sons who are 8 and 16): “I’m expecting a cup of tea in bed and something from the Mother’s Day stall at school, which will probably be something that my 7 year old Billy wants – last year I got a mini torch haha! My eldest Dan is a fantastic artist so a lovely hand drawn picture would be lovely but a voucher for a facial would be fab!”

Be a Fun Mum uber-blogger Kelly, of Mt Gravatt (Kelly’s been a mum for 16 years, and has four children): “I’m expecting to receive handmade cards and breakfast in bed. What I’d love is to spend time with my family without having to organise it all! Oh, and a dedicated hour in bed to drink coffee, munch on fresh bread and read a book.”

The Organised Housewife social media superstar Kat, of the Gold Coast (Kat’s been a mum for 14 years, and has three kids): “I’m expecting some handmade gifts because I caught my girls recently searching on Pinterest. These are the most precious gifts of all! I would be happy to enjoy a picnic in the park, with a coffee and playing card games with hubby and the kids. Then a slow afternoon at home watching movies – an added bonus would be if they cooked dinner and did all the dishes!”

School Mum social media phenomenon Samantha, of Clontarf (Sam’s been a mum for nine years and has three kids): “I’m angling for a sleep in, my children not to fight for at least half the day and breakfast in bed. I’m hoping for my children agreeing to not fight for a year LOL!”

Teacher and Instagramer @the_kmart_teacher Vanessa, of Nerang (Vanessa’s been a mum for eight years. She has two babies and “three angel babies, with a long story of cancer, miscarriage and miracles”): “I’m expecting lots of cuddles, kisses and maybe some of my fave choccies. My cuddles will be amazing, but I would love a sparkly new phone with lots of storage for my social media antics and to help run my new business!”

Angela, of Ormeau (a mum with 12 years of experience and three kids): “I’m expecting flowers and something handmade from school. I’m happy to just spend the day relaxing and doing anything with the family that doesn’t involve cooking or cleaning.”

Kate, of Tugun (a mum with nine years of experience, Kate has 2.75 kids – her third is on the way!): “ I’m expecting something the kids have chosen themselves from a little gift shop where we always go camping at that time of the year. My mum takes them and let’s them spend $15 each – it’s always a very interesting range of gifts! I’d love an experience gift where I could do something with them, but I do love seeing what they choose every year too.”

Karen, of Windaroo (Karen’s been a mum for 11 years and has two cherubs): “I’m expecting crafty gifts from the kids and a card that pops up a few days/weeks later because it’s been hidden so well! I would really love a nice day out with the family. I’m picturing nice lunch in the sunshine with a glass of wine.”

Belinda, of Clayfield (Has been a mum for 20.5 years and has three daughters aged 20, 18 and 16): “I’m expecting some thoughtful gifts that are purely self-indulgent, like my favourite lollies. I’ve been dropping some major hints about a chunky resin bangle that I spotted in a gift shop.”
