Can you believe it’s almost time for another school holiday? Don’t panic – here are 25 ways to fill your days (and embrace the spring weather while you’re at it!).
- Make the most of the not-too-hot days and go kayaking – with Tallebudgera and Currumbin creeks, we’re spoilt for choice here on the Gold Coast.
- Let the kids try a cooking class! The Kids Cooking Academy in Nerang offers a mouthwatering school holiday program.
- Hit the flicks – check out our round up of the best movies to look out for in the weeks ahead.
- The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers is running all September long, and is the perfect excuse to get out of the city! Don’t miss the delicious foods, fun attractions and jaw-dropping floral displays.
- Visit your local library for plenty of free and affordable fun, whether it’s group storytime or an unmissable activity.
- Head to HOTA for Kids Take Over when it rolls into the city’s cultural centre from September 26 to 29.
- Or give the kids a culture fix at one of these locations.
- Try at-home pottery with thanks to pottery kits like Crock’d and Claytime (you’ll need some extra vases to hold all of those fresh spring blooms!).
- Enrol the kids in surfing lessons so that they’re hanging ten by summer! Currumbin Alley Surf School is one of our personal favourites.
- Make the most of the school holidays and enjoy a mid-week food market – you’ll find us at Miami Marketta for their Wednesday, Friday and Saturday street food festival.
- Head west and explore the beautiful Scenic Rim! There’s no better way to do that than with a hosted hike.
- Go for a scenic drive – no matter which direction you head in (note: we obviously can’t cross the border for the foreseeable future!), try one of these favourites.
- Enjoy a rural getaway at O’Reilly’s, getting back to nature with hikes, adventure activities and good old fashioned camping.
- Or head north and stay cityside like our editor Belinda did! It’s a great way to break up the school holidays (especially since we’re hesitant to hop on a plane at the moment).
- Embrace the warmer weather and hit up a local watering hole! We’ve rounded up our favourites right here.
- Leave the kids at home and go for a relaxing soak at Soak Bathhouse. There’s no better way to shake off the school holiday crazies than with a float in their magnesium pools.
- Dreamworld isn’t all about adrenaline-pumping rides – they’re also getting set to host their Spring County Fair, and it’s a must attend! Find out more about the petting zoo, live country music, tasty eats and more right here.
- Make the most of the Gold Coast’s amazing bike paths and enjoy a family day out. No bikes? No worries! There are also plenty of amazing bike hire places here, too.
- The Craft Parlour is back with another bumper school holiday program, and we can’t wait to enrol the kids.
- Go wild with an animal encounter, whether it’s on land or out at sea.
