Can you believe it’s almost time for another school holiday? Don’t panic – here are 25 ways to fill your days (and embrace the spring weather while you’re at it!).

  1. Make the most of the not-too-hot days and go kayaking – with Tallebudgera and Currumbin creeks, we’re spoilt for choice here on the Gold Coast.
  2. Let the kids try a cooking class! The Kids Cooking Academy in Nerang offers a mouthwatering school holiday program.
  3. Hit the flicks – check out our round up of the best movies to look out for in the weeks ahead.
  4. The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers is running all September long, and is the perfect excuse to get out of the city! Don’t miss the delicious foods, fun attractions and jaw-dropping floral displays.
  5. Visit your local library for plenty of free and affordable fun, whether it’s group storytime or an unmissable activity.
  6. Head to HOTA for Kids Take Over when it rolls into the city’s cultural centre from September 26 to 29.
  7. Or give the kids a culture fix at one of these locations.
  8. Try at-home pottery with thanks to pottery kits like Crock’d and Claytime (you’ll need some extra vases to hold all of those fresh spring blooms!).
  9. Enrol the kids in surfing lessons so that they’re hanging ten by summer! Currumbin Alley Surf School is one of our personal favourites.
  10. Make the most of the school holidays and enjoy a mid-week food market – you’ll find us at Miami Marketta for their Wednesday, Friday and Saturday street food festival.
  11. Head west and explore the beautiful Scenic Rim! There’s no better way to do that than with a hosted hike.
  12. Go for a scenic drive – no matter which direction you head in (note: we obviously can’t cross the border for the foreseeable future!), try one of these favourites
  13. Enjoy a rural getaway at O’Reilly’s, getting back to nature with hikes, adventure activities and good old fashioned camping.
  14. Or head north and stay cityside like our editor Belinda did! It’s a great way to break up the school holidays (especially since we’re hesitant to hop on a plane at the moment).
  15. Embrace the warmer weather and hit up a local watering hole! We’ve rounded up our favourites right here.
  16. Leave the kids at home and go for a relaxing soak at Soak Bathhouse. There’s no better way to shake off the school holiday crazies than with a float in their magnesium pools.
  17. Dreamworld isn’t all about adrenaline-pumping rides – they’re also getting set to host their Spring County Fair, and it’s a must attend! Find out more about the petting zoo, live country music, tasty eats and more right here.
  18. Make the most of the Gold Coast’s amazing bike paths and enjoy a family day out. No bikes? No worries! There are also plenty of amazing bike hire places here, too.
  19. The Craft Parlour is back with another bumper school holiday program, and we can’t wait to enrol the kids.
  20. Go wild with an animal encounter, whether it’s on land or out at sea.
  21. There’s no better way to embrace spring than to get into the garden and plant some blooms – here are five we’ll be planting.
  22. The school learning may have stopped, but your children can still learn a lot about their mental health with thanks to Looking for Ladybird’s slate of youth programs! Click here to find out more.
  23. Keep your little adrenaline junkies happy with a trip to the skate park – we’re blessed with plenty right here on the Gold Coast. Here are some of our favourites.
  24. Or check out the Big Wedgie, the enormous inflatable water slide which is back on the Gold Coast these spring school holidays from September 18 to October 4.
  25. Let the kids go rogue and embrace school holiday hair with a bold (temporary) colour job! Here’s our expert guide.
