Audiences of the Gold Coast will be treated to some serious talent, laughter and entertainment when ‘The Adventures of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell in Return to Pantoland’ hits the Gold Coast Arts Centre. Produced by internationally renowned performer and director Bonnie Lythgoe, the show will captivate audiences of all ages with show-stopping dancing, singing, costumes, humour and even magic. We chatted to Bonnie herself about everything from local talent to local hotspots.

Tell us a bit about this new take on the adventures of Peter Pan?
This Production is very true to the story. While the music is original and written for the production, there are a few songs that families will know. It is totally child-friendly – we even ask them to join in and become part of the cast!

bonnie1You’ve produced shows in London’s West End and had global success in television and theatre – why have you chosen the Gold Coast Arts Centre as the stage to debut this show to the world?
I spend quite a bit of time on the Gold Coast and I realised that unless you drive to Brisbane, family productions on the Gold Coast at reasonable prices were practically non-existent. I wanted to change that, and give the locals a taste of the theatre with productions that entertained everyone, whether they’re 3 or 103.

What should audiences be most excited to witness in this production?
I think the audience will love the fact that they can join in and be part of the production – they can laugh, scream and witness something that many children have never experienced before. I am afraid I can’t tell you what that something is…

What will surprise them most?
I think the audience will be surprised at how much they have enjoyed a musical production! It’s a very a talented cast and two hours will seem like 5 minutes.

You’ve got an all-star cast as well as some home-grown Gold Coast talent. Tell us a bit about the calibre of the local performers in the show?
The talent on the Gold Coast is remarkable – when I was auditioning the dancers I was shocked at the standard. One of the Lost Boys is, I believe, a star in the making and the two children in Peter Pan “John and Michael” could work in the West End. That is also one of my goals – to show people the talent that is right on their doorsteps.

How long have you lived on the Gold Coast for, and why did you decide to move here?
I have lived on the Gold Coast several years. I came here because of family and stayed for the love of the beautiful beaches and weather.

What’s your favourite spot to grab a bite on the Gold Coast?
I really enjoy having lunch on the Isle of Capri; its casual and the food is great.

Where do you like to shop?
I love the new Pacific Fair! It’s so lovely to walk around in the early evening when everything looks like a fairyland. The shops are great and there is such a friendly atmosphere all around.
