These school holidays, embrace experiences of the animal variety. Here are a few ways to go wild with the whole family these school holidays.
Hang out with alpacas at Mountview Alpaca Farm
It’s all about alpacas right now, and thankfully Mountview Alpaca Farm is not far away! Located within the grounds of O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards, it’s here that you can feed the alpacas and walk them around the vineyard grounds. You can even order a bottle of wine or a picnic hamper from the vineyard and enjoy some time with your new fluffy friends!
Meet the dolphins at Tangalooma
A visit to Tangalooma is never complete without an evening spent hand feeding the pod of wild bottlenose dolphins that visit their shores at sunset. This large family of playful dolphins visit regularly and each have their own distinctive and unique personalities. The Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Feeding Experience is even included in selected accommodation and day cruise packages from Brisbane.
Feed the lorikeets Currumbin
There are plenty of animal encounters to have inside Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (koalas, kangaroos and crocodiles, just to name a few!) but did you know that there is plenty of fun to be had outside their gates, too? Every day at 8 AM and 4 PM, you can feed countless wild lorikeets right from the palm of your hand – or head, or shoulders… These are the birds which founded the sanctuary over 70 years ago, and years later they still know the same time and place to feed. Cool, right?!
Ride horses at Bonogin Valley
Enough feeding animals – why not ride them instead?! Bonogin Valley’s family-run horse riding school is the specialist in beginner education for budding horse riders. They focus on having fun with horses and developing the skills that will provide the foundation of a lifetime of enjoyment for your kids. There is truly no better way for your children to get their start with these beautiful animals.
Cuddle cats at the Crazy Cat Cafe
In the heart of Surfers Paradise, in the midst of the hustle and bustle, there is a place where you can chill out and sip coffee in the comfort of some of the best companions – cats! The Crazy Cat Cafe offers, you guessed it, a cafe which offers a view of both the Cat lounge and Surfers Paradise and serves delicious coffee, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and delicious food. In the Cat Lounge, you can mingle with the four-legged staff members, and maybe even take a cat home for adoption!
Sip coffee with Border Collies at Collies & Co.
Not one for a cat cafe? How about a dog cafe – Border Collies, no less?! The family behind Collies & Co. fell into their unique business by chance, but their success has proven that their idea to combine their cafe and their dog breeding business was a stroke of genius! They loved seeing the impact their litters of puppies had on their visitors, and continue to shed their love of food, coffee and puppies with each and every customer.
