Aussie Kids Spreading Kindness Across Schools

Schools​ ​across​ ​Australia​ ​and​ ​New​ ​Zealand​ ​are​ ​encouraged​ ​to​ ​take​the​ Choose​ ​Kind​ ​Classroom Challenge​ ​​and​ ​become​ ​a​ ​Certified​ ​Kind Classroom.

The​ ​Choose​ ​Kind​ ​Movement​ ​is​ ​inspired​ ​by​ ​author​ ​R.J​ ​Palacio’s​ ​story​ W​​ONDER,​​ ​an​ ​established book​ ​amongst​ ​teachers​ ​and​ ​students. WONDER is a part of the Australian Curriculum as it​ ​hopes​ ​to​ ​spread​ ​a​ ​positive​ ​social​ ​change​ ​across Australia​ ​and​ ​New​ ​Zealand​ ​by​ ​encouraging​ ​people​ ​to​ ​practice​ ​acts​ ​of​ ​kindness to one another.

Schools​ ​are​ ​invited​ ​to​ ​take​ ​part​ ​in​ ​the​ ​​Choose​ ​Kind​ ​Classroom​ ​Challenge,​ ​which​ ​motivates​ ​students to​ ​routinely​ ​show​ ​kindness,​ ​acceptance​ ​and​ ​respect​ ​for​ ​their​ ​peers​ ​and​ ​teachers.

Classrooms​ ​that​ ​participate​ ​will​ ​have​ ​a​ ​chance​ ​to​ ​win​ ​an​ ​advanced​ ​screening​ ​of​ ​the​ ​movie adaptation​ ​​WONDER​​ ​for​ ​their​ ​classroom,​ ​which​ ​is​ ​in​ ​cinemas​ ​30​ ​November​ ​2017.

So what’s the challenge?
Teachers​ ​and​ ​educators​ ​simply​ ​need​ ​to​ ​sign​ ​the​ ​Choose​ ​Kind​ ​pledge​ ​at​ www.choosekind.org.au and​ ​join​ ​the​ ​​Choose​ ​Kind​ ​Classroom​ ​Challenge.

The​ ​challenge​ ​includes​ ​three​ ​activities​​, which​ ​can​ ​be​ ​incorporated​ ​into​ ​a​ ​classroom​ ​without disruption​ ​to​ ​class​ ​lessons​ ​and​ ​curriculum.​

Step one​:
Fill​ ​A​ ​Jar​ ​With​ ​Kindness.​ ​Every​ ​time​ ​an​ ​act​ ​of​ ​kindness​ ​is​ ​done,​ ​a​ ​token​ ​is​ ​placed​ ​in​ ​a jar.

Step​ ​two:​
Precepts​ ​to​ ​Live​ ​By.​ ​Explore​ ​the​ ​concept​ ​of​ ​a​ ​precept​ ​and​ ​work​ ​together​ ​as​ ​a​ ​class​ ​to create​ ​or​ ​choose​ ​your​ ​own​ ​classroom​ ​precept.

Step ​three:​
Once​ ​the​ ​jar​ ​is​ ​full,​ ​send​ ​a​ ​picture​ ​to​ ​​choosekind@roadshow.com.au​​ ​along​ ​with​ ​the chosen​ ​class​ ​precept​ ​with​ ​an​ ​explanation​ ​in​ ​25​ ​words​ ​or​ ​less​ ​on​ ​why​ ​that​ ​particular​ ​precept​ ​was chosen.​ ​Include contact​ ​name,​ ​name​ ​of​ ​school,​ ​grade​ ​of​ ​class​ ​and​ ​number​ ​of​ ​students​ ​in​ ​the class.​ ​This​ ​will​ ​be​ ​accepted​ ​as​ ​an​ ​entry​ ​into​ ​the​ ​competition​ ​for​ ​a​ ​chance​ ​to​ ​win​ ​a​ ​screening​ ​of WONDER.

In​ ​total​ ​there​ ​will​ ​be​ ​nine​ ​schools​ ​selected​ ​as​ ​winners,​ ​one​ ​for​ ​each​ ​Australian​ ​state/territory​ ​and one​ ​for​ ​New​ ​Zealand.

The​ ​hope​ ​is​ ​to​ ​get​ ​as​ ​many​ ​schools​ ​involved​ ​as​ ​possible​ ​with​ ​the​ ​Choose​ ​Kind​ ​Movement​ ​to reinforce​ ​the​ ​importance​ ​of​ ​being​ ​kind​ ​to​ ​one​ ​another.
