Sure, there are plenty of amazing places to discover overseas, but there are even more right here in our backyard.

No matter what budget, timeframe or goal you have for your vacation, we’ve rounded up our must-visit destinations.

A trip across the country
It’s the longest trek on our list, but Perth is a natural wonderland that’s perfect for your next family getaway. The perfect harmony of nature and urban life, this Western Australian beauty enjoys more sunny days than any other Australian capital city. Visit nearby Rottnest Island, walk in leafy Kings Park and experience Swan Valley’s vineyards, Aboriginal art, food and history. Explore the nearby city of Fremantle to see their winding portside streets, or just kick back on Perth’s sparkling beaches and enjoy their world-class surf breaks.

A trip up north
From the Great Barrier Reef to the World Heritage Listed rainforests, Cairns offers a world of family fun for your next getaway. See the sights from the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway or the Kuranda Scenic Railway, tuck into tropical fruits and local seafood, then dive into the water to see what wonders await you below the surface. The very best part? Cairns’ proximity to the equator makes it a fantastic destination to visit in the cooler months – because they don’t really have any!

A trip down south
It’s our cosmopolitan melting pot of arts, culture and sport, but there is so much more to explore in Melbourne. A Mecca of all things tasty and trendy, Melbourne’s brick-lined, street art adorned laneways provide the ultimate backdrop for your next family photoshoot, and the beaches of St Kilda are perfect for penguin spotting. Plus, it’s AFL season, so make sure you catch a game at the ‘Gee’ – no matter who’s playing, it’s sure to be a fierce face-off.

A simple weekend away
While you could travel far and wide exploring everything Australia has to offer, sometimes, the best holiday memories are made in our own backyard. Enjoy a night away at a fun or fancy hotel – Brisbanites will love The Emporium at South Bank, while Gold Coast families can’t go past Paradise Resort – or simply go camping near your house (your literal backyard totally counts). You’ll come home feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and so much closer as a family.
