The sunny, sandy shores of the Gold Coast are the place to be this Australia Day. With not one, but two major events taking over Southport’s most popular public spots, you’d best pack a picnic basket and plenty of sunscreen – one day almost isn’t enough to squeeze it all in.
From 4pm until 7.45pm, the Broadwater Parklands will come alive with the ultimate free family event. Australia Day at Broadwater Parklands will feature the winners of the Gold Coast Music Awards’ Best Live Act award, Mason Rock Band, supported by an impressive line-up of local talent for you to groove along to. When you’ve danced ‘til you can’t dance any more, refuel with grub from a delicious selection of food trucks or enjoy some family fun in the Aussie Activities Zone. You can also relive the fun of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and give Beach Volleyball a try down by the Broadwater – the little athletes of the family will love the ‘Mini-Commonwealth-Games’ zone!
The day will support our drought-stricken farmers, so don’t forget to head to the Rural Aid Australia stand and donate a gold coin or purchase merchandise. And, make sure you stick around until 7.45pm, as the free event will finish with a bang with a dazzling firework display sure to rival New Year’s Eve’s festivities!
As if that wasn’t enough, be sure to also stop by the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre during the day – they’re throwing another one of their classic Aussie pool parties! For just the regular admission charge, you and the fam can enjoy an overflowing program of fun activities from 11am until 2pm, including thong throwing, novelty races, dive bomb competitions, giant inflatables, games, giveaways, sausage sizzle, free fitness classes (8am and 10am) and so much more!
