HOTA

When it comes to culture hubs on the Gold Coast, you can’t go past our literal Home of the Arts, HOTA!

  • Dumpling Dreams’ | Now – May 1, 2022: A whimsical dumpling dreamscape full of fun, discovery and adventure.
  • ‘Light Play’ Little Artlab | March 9 – March 23: Make rainbows, see sparkles, play with shadows, and create a little night light for your bedtime ritual.  
  • ‘Edward the Emu’ | May 20 – May 21, 2022: Monkey Baa delivers a clever and funny new imagining, combining books ‘Edward the Emu’ and ‘Edwina the Emu’.

QAGoMA

From the modern art on display at GoMA to the unmissable classics in the Queensland Art Gallery, this is one spot you’ll happily spend an entire family day out.

  • ‘APT10 Kids’ | Now – April 25, 2022: Seven projects by artists from across the Asia Pacific region that celebrate inclusion, diversity, collaboration and community.
  • ‘Roy and Matilda’ | Permanent: Discover paintings with Roy and Matilda, two friendly mice who live behind a tiny door in the Queensland Art Gallery.
  • ‘Kids Trail’ | Permanent: Discover a wild and wonderful menagerie of animals hiding in the Australian Art Collection.

Museum of Brisbane

Not to be confused with the Queensland Museum on the south side of the river, the Museum of Brisbane in Brisbane City Hall offers a world of wonder and learning just waiting to be explored.

  • BYO Baby Tour: ‘City in the Sun’ | Selected Tuesdays: Enjoy a guided tour of the ‘City in the Sun’ exhibition with your baby.
  • ‘Making Place: 100 views of Brisbane’ | From March 26: MoB presents more than 100 historical and contemporary depictions of the Brisbane region from their collections. 
  • Storytime | Fortnightly Wednesdays from 10.30am: Visit the Dome Gallery every second Wednesday and enjoy a picture book followed by a craft activity.

QPAC

The state’s home of performing arts, there’s always an amazing play or musical to catch with the kids at QPAC.

  • ‘Frozen’ | Now playing: Adapted from the Oscar-winning film, Frozen comes to life with gorgeous sets and costumes as well as sensational special effects.
  • ‘Roald Dahl’s The Twits’ | April 1 – April 14: Roald Dahl’s gruesome twosome The Twits arrive on stage to delight and disgust, in equal measure.
  • ‘Loop the Loop’ | May 18 – May 20: Master musician Gene Peterson goes head-to-head with multi-instrumentalist Adam Page in this phenomenal showdown.
