I have an obsession with teeth whitening. You remember that episode of Friends where Ross whitens his teeth to fluorescent levels? #goals! So when I uncovered WARPAINT, an all natural, non-toxic, at-home teeth whitening product I couldn’t wait to get Behind the Brand with WARPAINT Founder, Petra Konig.
Based on activated coconut shell charcoal, along with bentonite clay and organic sweet orange peel, peppermint and lemon myrtle, WARPAINT is a super-fine black powder that you simply dip your wet toothbrush into, then brush for two minutes (keeping lips closed as your mouth will go black!), then rinse thoroughly and voila! Whiter teeth. The product can be used as regularly as needed, whitens and polishes teeth, strengthens enamel and detoxes your mouth. As a regular “whitener”, I’m hooked – and it doesn’t result in tooth sensitivity (or require a mouthful of toxic goo).
WARPAINT has quickly established a strong social media following. And with brand ambassador (and social media celeb) Pia Muehlenbeck as the gorgeous ‘face’ of the product, who wouldn’t want in?
Gold Coast entrepreneur and WARPAINT Founder Petra Konig tells us more:
How did WARPAINT come about?
I am a paramedical aesthetician focusing on skin revision and age management.
Being a therapist and product formulator, with a passion in CHM (Chinese Herbal Medicine) and natural therapies, I love to create ethically natural products that deliver results. The name WARPAINT was born in a brainstorming event within the family.
How long did it take between concept and product launch?
The idea started early 2014. WARPAINT launched in October that same year.
You run a successful beauty business – Ethical Skin Clinic – and have two daughters. What made you want to develop this product on top of everything else already in your busy schedule?
It is not that I wasn’t busy enough. It’s more like I felt I had created something amazing and wanted to share it.
What were your biggest hurdles along the way?
Working a day job and still managing to create an ecommerce business is a 15 hour day but when you sell something you truly believe in and you are passionate about, that is not the biggest challenge. Shipping is!!! I have yet not found the perfect solution.
You have a strong social media following. Can you tell us some of your early wins in building the WARPAINT brand online?
Well, social media! That is a big one! My kids are my inspiration and teachers. Today even they are amazed how far I have come. You see, I am an old chick. A year ago I started from scratch. Instagram, Facebook, Squaready, Texton etc. I had to learn everything. I didn’t even know what a ‘like’ was.
The secret for a successful business, online or offline is honesty and consistency. I believe in great customer service and every email/question gets answered.
Why is the non-toxic, all-natural approach so important to you?
We have too many chemical-based teeth whitening products on the market and with it comes its uncomfortable and even sometimes painful procedure. WARPAINT was created out of my own frustrations. I wanted a natural and safe product to clean, polish and whiten teeth.
What’s next for WARPAINT?
We sell to over 50 countries retail and we are in the process of building the wholesale side of the business. I am thrilled when I see my product in other shops and it makes me happy when WARPAINT users leave a positive comment. I really enjoy what I am doing and would like to see the product in every shop that shares our values to put a confident smile on everyone’s face.
