If we’re going to be stuck at home for a few weeks, we may as well tick some shows and movies off the ‘Must Watch’ list!

These are our picks for your next TV binge or movie marathon…

WITH THE KIDS…

The Shrek Series
‘Shrek’ is one of those kids’ series that is just as charming for adults – and thankfully, there are a whopping four movies to binge-watch! Watch as Shrek, a scary ogre, leaves his swamp, falls in love and even gets a taste of life as part of a royal family, being followed all the while by his trusty companion, Donkey. If you’re going to watch the Shrek series, you better hurry – it’s leaving Netflix on April 11!

Avatar: The Last Airbender
With a whopping 61 episodes to catch up on, there’s a good chance ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ will become your family’s new favourite show. Follow Aang, a long-lost Avatar and the only one with the ability to master all four elements – water, earth, fire and air – as he faces the Fire Nation with the help of sidekicks Katara and Sokka.

A Series of Unfortunate Events
There is no series quite like ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’. Based on the book series of the same name, the series stars Neil Patrick Harris as the evil Count Olaf, a distant relative of the Beauregard children trying to seize their large inheritance. If you were a fan of Lemony Snickett’s beloved book series, you have to check out the Netflix version. Then, once you breeze through all three seasons, you can see how Jim Carrey compares in the 2004 movie!

How to Train your Dragon
Few people could have anticipated the meteoric rise of the ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ franchise, which began as a book, then a movie trilogy as well as a TV show. The series’ protagonist, Hiccup, is a young viking keen to follow in the footsteps of his tribe’s greatest dragon slayers. But when he actually finds a dragon, Toothless, he finds himself wanting to befriend it instead…

The Powerpuff Girls
Here’s a bit of 90s nostalgia for you! When Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup are accidentally created in a lab by Professor Utonium, the superpowered sisters set off to save Townsville (nope, not the Queensland city) from evildoers. Watch them battle Mojo Jojo, the Gangreen Gang and Him with sass, strength and serious cuteness. With eight seasons of the original show and plenty of movie spin-offs, you’ll be hard-pressed running out of ‘Powerpuff Girls’ to watch.

WITHOUT THE KIDS…

You
Prepare to be seriously creeped out. This psychological thriller follows Joe Goldberg, a New York bookstore manager and serial killer who sets his sights on customer, Guinevere Beck. The first season follows his extreme, toxic and delusional obsession with her, and the second season – which aired in 2019 – sees Joe move to Los Angeles to escape his past. Unsurprisingly, that proves far more difficult than he had hoped. ‘You’ is based on the novels by Caroline Kepnes, so if you’re hooked, you’ll have a book series to turn to after you binge the show.

Queer Eye
Equally hilarious and heartwarming, the Netflix reboot of the beloved ‘Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’ is the show the world needs right now. The all new, all queer ‘Fab 5’ tour Georgia, Kansas City and soon, Texas, making over ‘heroes’ who need a little help in fashion, food, decorating, grooming and culture. It’s heartwarming, helpful and focuses on tough topics in a palatable way. Prepare to laugh until you ugly cry.

Mindhunter
Fans of true crime and procedurals will love ‘Mindhunter,’ a series that follows two FBI agents as they pioneer the agency’s Behavioural Science Unit. Agents Bill Tench and Holden Ford – who are based on two real FBI agents – interview notorious killers and criminal masterminds like Ed Kemper, Charles Manson and Richard Speck, to gain an understanding a new term they are coining: ‘serial killer’.

The Bold Type
Putting together a magazine is no mean feat (trust us!), especially when you work at Scarlet magazine – like the characters in the beloved comedy-drama ‘The Bold Type’. Follow three young women, Jane, Kat and Sutton, as they navigate high-pressure jobs, love and life in the Big Apple. The show is actually inspired by the life of longtime magazine editor and show executive producer Joanna Coles, so you know it hits the nail on the head.

Whether you’re looking for a laugh, a cry or major heartbreak, you’ll find it within this collection.
