With over 200 performances of live music, dance, theatre, comedy, food, spoken word, cabaret, installations, and visual arts, you’ll have a tough time finding something you won’t like at this year’s BLEACH* Festival.

Here are 10 of the BLEACH* Festival events we’re most looking forward to.

Roll out the picnic rug, and let ARIA-award winning songbird Katie Noonan serenade you into sunset with tunes from Joni Mitchell’s landmark album, Blue. Meanjin-based artist Jo Davie, kicks off the concert with her blend of folk and jazz, setting the tone for an evening of musical magic.

Intensify and magnify your inner world into a tangible, visceral outer world experience. Step up to the podium, clip on the heart rate monitor and take a breath. Then, watch in real-time as your heart rate pulses its way up the pyramid, exploding into a beautifully bright burst—your heart and soul personified in light and colour.

Based on real stories, this action-packed skating spectacle celebrates hope and how the rough and tumble ride of life on wheels can save you, just when you need it the most. Created by participatory joy generators Everybody NOW!, this moving performance will have you cheering from the edge of your seat as dozens of local roller skaters, an epic live band and an all-star cast converge on stage.

Discover the indomitable spirit of youth and the world they find themselves in with this visual feast of movement, dance and spoken word. Directed by award-winning choreographer Emma Saunders, watch in awe as some of the country’s brightest artists converge on the same stage, including writer Felicity Castagna, composers Amanda Brown (The Go-Betweens) and Jodi Phillis (The Clouds), poet Warren Foster, and a cast of 10 dancers.

Jump in the car and traverse along winding roads, venturing deep into the lush Currumbin Valley, where this year’s musical adventure awaits. Housed in iconic rural sheds—their unique history embedded into the tapestry of each space—the intimate concerts celebrate the hidden stories of their stage. With site-specific works performed in each of the different sheds, this melodic road trip is a true bucket list experience.

The perfect canvas for a kaleidoscope of monstrous paintings, the roving art gallery is inspired by a Stephen King’s horror short story, Trucks, where sentient machinery enslaves humankind. Cruising on the mainland of Australia for the first time, you’ll do a double take as the leering faces of monsters drive past you in the street—thankfully these machines are human-friendly. This thought-provoking mobile art installation is brought to you by the acclaimed Terrapin Puppet Theatre.

Choose your own aural adventure at this unique fusion of art and music. Curated by Vanessa Tomlinson, witness HOTA Gallery come alive with musicians dotted amongst the unexplored spaces, spontaneously breaking out into jam sessions inspired by the gallery’s incredible collection of work, reverberating acoustics and timeless architecture. Guests are encouraged to wander, letting their senses be guided by the enchanting experience.

Step inside a shimmering light sculpture for an immersive experience that stimulates the senses and sparks the imagination. The journey unfolds through a synchronised sound and light show with over 1000 light lines, each delicately illuminated to create a mesmerising playscape. A kaleidoscope of light, space and movement, throw yourself into the moment to reach a state of inspiration, curiosity and awe that will linger long after you leave.

As the sun sets on the final night of BLEACH*, surrender to the mesmerising frequencies of the Tower Divas at the electrifying world premiere. The soul-stirring performance seamlessly blends the awe-inspiring talents of Yolngu songstress Gambirra Illume, Maori sonic weaver Whaia, and Korean-born vocalist Sunny Kim. Directed by Gold Coast contemporary composer Corrina Bonshek, the original production is part ritual, part sound healing, and all heart.

Stop by before a show, kick off the beginning of a big night, or simply shimmy on in when the music beckons you. Expect world record attempts, dance move competitions and ventures into the unknown.
