Kate Beynon draws on multiple visual traditions as the foundation for her artworks, including Western and Eastern comic books, mythology, animation, film, graffiti, calligraphy and fashion. In ‘Friendly Beasts’, Kate Beynon brings to life four hybrid figures who are inspired by mythological figures, deities, theatrical masks and supernatural creatures. Young visitors will meet these benevolent friends – Blue Shaman, Lotus Monkey, Tu-Dao Dog and Gorgon Girl – who each have their own traits and personalities and aim to promote imagination, creative expression and fun.

Audience members are invited to ‘use their imagination’ when best-selling book The 13-Storey Treehouse comes to life on the Playhouse stage at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) from April 5-9. Adapted by Richard Tulloch and based on the best-selling book by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton, The 13Storey Treehouse is brought to life with a seriously funny cast and magical moments of theatrical wizardry.
