Brisbane Festival is back, baby, and it’s bringing truckloads of family fun along with it. Running from September 6 thru ‘til September 28, plenty of kid-friendly events in the bumper program fall in the first week of the September school holidays, meaning your school holiday fun is totally sorted.
This year’s festival shines its spotlight on a packed program of spellbinding shows and illuminating installations, including over ten shows that are specifically targeted to families and children of all ages.

Dan Sultan’s Nali and Friends
ARIA Award-winning musician Dan Sultan performs songs from his recently-released children’s album, Nali and Friends – a musical tale about unconventional, oddball animals from all around the world, from the jungles of Uganda to the highlands of Borneo and the deserts of Australia. Nali and Friends is bursting with playful, upbeat songs, interwoven with heart-warming stories about growing up, protecting our natural world, and learning to accept difference.
Sunsuper Riverfire celebrates the end of three weeks of Queensland’s largest arts and cultural event with a pyrotechnic extravaganza set to an almighty soundtrack celebraing 1989, Riverstage’s birthday year. This is one of the most electrifying fireworks displays in Australia, fired by Foti Fireworks Queensland from multiple bridges, barges and city rooftops, with aerobatics from the Australian Defence Force.
River of Light
This art-meets-technology water fountain, light-and-laser spectacle will illuminate the night and the Brisbane River. Following the phenomenal success of the 2018 telling of a Dreamtime creation story of the river – seen by almost 500,000 people – this new local story will again be told by Yuggera and Toorbal man Shannon Ruska working with Oracle Liquid.
