Blackboard Coffee has partnered with Councillor Herman Vorster and Radcliffe Lawyers to launch a new community project encouraging local children to plant and grow herbs and vegetables.

Children under 15 years of age can participate by collecting free vegetables, herbs and lettuce seeds from Blackboard Coffee to plant and grow in their gardens at home. Once the produce has grown, they are encouraged to return it to Blackboard where it will be purchased at market rate – providing children with money for their savings accounts.

Blackboard Coffee co-owner Marc Kinvig says he is excited to launch the new initiative and hopes it will also give back to the Gold Coast community.

‘’As well as selling their beautiful produce to Blackboard Coffee, children can also choose to donate it to local homeless charity HAVAFEED, so they can feed the Gold Coast’s most vulnerable,’’ he said.

Seeds and pots can be collected at Blackboard’s coffee truck at Varsity Winterfest on Saturday 4 August 2018. There will also be a pot collection station at the coffee truck for anyone wanting to donate old pots for the children to use to grow their produce.

Everyone who participates is encouraged to snap photos of their journey and send them to Blackboard Coffee, so they can promote the initiative throughout social media.

Bendigo Bank are also offering participants a free activity pack and $25 deposited into new accounts opened.

Here’s how it works:

1. Collect your free vegetable, herb, lettuce seeds and pots from the Blackboard Coffee truck at varsity Winterfest on Saturday 4 August 2018.
2. Plant the seeds at home and look after until they are fully grown (and if you like, send photos of your journey to Blackboard Coffee so they can promote your great work on social media)
3. Return your fully grown produce to Blackboard Coffee where it will be purchased back OR
4. Ask Blackboard Coffee to donate your produce to HAVAFEED, a local charity that helps feed the Gold Coast’s most vulnerable.
