The family at the Gold Coast’s most iconic cabaret just grew a little larger, with two young guns joining Dracula’s ‘Drax 4 Kids’ team after a nail-biting audition process. Meet Gabby and MK: the new stars on the Drax stage!

Meet Gabriella Pegler, age 13

How and when did you get involved with performing arts?
At the age of 5, I started gymnastics, then I got into dancing and musical theatre at the age of 7 as I have always loved to perform.

What do you love about performing?
It’s an amazing feeling to be on stage and performing. There’s a feeling I have in my heart, it’s a passion. I could never get that feeling unless I am performing.

Tell us about the role you will be playing in the Drax 4 Kids show?
I’m playing the role of Roxie, she’s a really fun and bubbly character, she loves karate but can be a bit sassy at times.

How much training did you undertake for your Drax 4 Kids audition? What did your audition involve?
I prepared myself by rehearsing the dance over and over again. With the vocal, I took it to my singing teacher and we worked on it for quite a while.

The audition involved singing and dancing in the first round. When I got my next call back I had to do the singing and dancing again plus a dialogue.

What will your weekly routine involve now that you have joined the Dracula’s team?
Now that I have joined the Draculas team I will rehearse the dances, songs and scripts twice a week on my own just so that I don’t forget as I work every second Saturday.

What was the absolute best day of your life?
Visiting Disneyland with my family when I was 10.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
My super power would be flying, flying whenever I want to fly. Because I could go anywhere in the world in a split second. I could just travel the world while my family are asleep and they wouldn’t even know I was travelling.

What’s your favourite thing to do on the weekend?
Ride my bike and hang out with my friends.

What book have you most recently read? What movie have you most recently seen?
Anne Frank and the Lion King

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be in the performing arts industry. I love it so much it would be a very happy life.

Which celebrity do you look up to, and why?
Zendaya because no matter what she always has a smile on her face. I have seen some amazing videos of her singing, dancing and acting and I look up to her oh and Tom Holland he’s so cute.

Where do you see yourself in 15 years?
I am going to be 28, that’s so old! I’m hoping to see myself travelling the world and doing what I love – dancing, singing and acting, hopefully with my cat and my dog.

Meet Mekonnen (but everyone calls him MK), age 13

How and when did you get involved with performing arts?
I started in the industry with modelling 2 years ago when my parents joined me to an agency, Reel Management. But I really got a taste of performing arts when I joined my first theatre production of A Little Princess at a local theatre company last year. Izzy, the choreographer recommended I start ballet lessons. From there I joined a dance school, Dynamite Studios, and haven’t looked back!

What do you love about performing?
I don’t always have to be me, I can play a totally different person and I get the opportunity to embrace that character.

Tell us about the role you will be playing in the Drax 4 Kids show?
The character I play is Wolfie. He is a funny, jokey character that loves to have fun.

How much training did you undertake for your Drax 4 Kids audition? What did your audition involve?
I was fortunate to have Miss Abbe from Dynamite Studios, where I dance, work with me in preparing for the audition. She held a workshop and made sure I had picked great audition pieces. For the audition I prepared a song to sing, a dance and a monologue. My hope was to thoroughly entertain them, and I think it worked!

What will your weekly routine involve now that you have joined the Dracula’s team?
I will be performing some Saturdays depending on the roster. Sometimes I may need to do some promotional appearances and shoots but it’s all still a bit new to me so I am looking forward to seeing what’s ahead. When I am not at Drax, I am doing schoolwork, or I am at dance…or at the beach flipping.

What was the absolute best day of your life?
When I did my first flip!

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Immortality, so that I can take more risks and help save peoples lives.

What’s your favourite thing to do on the weekend?
I love to flip, sing and dance. Anywhere, anytime. I recently found a cool park that locals come and workout and practice acrobatics, I have loved going there and working on my tricks.

What book have you most recently read? What movie have you most recently seen?
I just recently watched a Sorceries Apprentice. Avengers End Game at the Cinemas was petty awesome too. (Yeah I should probably read more haha)

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be a Performing Artist.

Which celebrity do you look up to, and why?
I look up to Dwayne Johnson because he became strong because of his struggles in life. He is now an inspiration to others. I can relate to him and want to use where I came from to make me stronger and inspire others to do the same.

Where do you see yourself in 15 years?
On the stage, well known for my talents. I hope this anyway. I know there are so many out there who want this too, so I am working hard to be the best I can be.

You can catch Gabby and MK doing their thing on the stage with their new Drax 4 Kids family every Saturday.
