Linked to positive self-esteem, improved social skills, skeletal and cardiovascular development and good general health, physical activity is a key factor in the development of healthy learners.

With an impressive track record in sport, Coomera Anglican College has enjoyed much success at local, regional, State and National levels, driving the College to implement a range of Sporting Academies that not only inspire students to benefit from the effects of physical activity but also nurtures those with identified sporting talent.

The Sporting Academies give students from Year 4 to 12 the opportunity to participate in a developmental sporting programme, allowing those who have been recognised for their sporting ability access to additional coaching that will assist them in progressing to elite levels of competition. From goal setting to strengthening sporting skills and time management, the College’s Sporting Academies are driven by the College’s continuing commitment towards inspiring excellence.

Focused on the key sports of Netball, Football (including Futsal) and Basketball, these academies see students participate in weekly training for squad based specific skills, Fast Feet, Yoga Fusion, as well as age appropriate strength and conditioning sessions. The Academies nurture all athletes, even those that do not participate in the sports offered, by developing the core elements of flexibility, strength and agility.

To further enhance the opportunities available to students, the College has entered into strategic partnerships with Gold Coast Football Academy, Helensvale Swimming Club, Gold Coast Seahawks Basketball and Golden South Jaguars (from 2018).  The Golden South Coast Jaguars will be based and operate their programmes at the College in 2018.  Gold Coast Football Academy also run the College Football Academy Fast Feet programme and Yoga Fusion sessions available to all our Academy athletes.

The future direction of the Sporting Academies is motivated by Coomera Anglican College’s ‘growth mindset’ philosophy which sees the programme reassessed each term to ensure that students continue to develop their sporting talents and benefit from the programme.

Currently, there are over 160 students involved in the Academy programmes.

To be eligible for consideration into the Academy programmes, students must either play for Coomera Anglican College’s club teams or play that particular sport for the College in the APS competition.
