We love a good day trip. Whether it’s school holidays or the school term, there’s always time to hit the road and visit somewhere new for the day – and here in South East Queensland, we are seriously spoilt for choice.

We’re so spoilt, in fact, that it can be hard to choose just where to go. Here at haven, we have been loving letting the kids choose – each weekend, or day of the school holidays, one child gets to decide where the whole family will go. Another option is to write down a number of ‘dream day trip destinations’, put them in a jar and let fate decide.

Here is some inspiration to get you started… and be sure to check current Covid-19 travel and border restrictions before you go.

The Big Smoke
Whether you’re a Brissie local or live further south, there is always more to explore in the state capital. We’ve narrowed down our top twenty things to do in Brisbane, all year ‘round – you could even write them all down, pop them in a jar and give them a go over the next few months!

The Tweed
Don’t get us wrong – we love life here in south-east Queensland, but sometimes we find ourselves dreaming of a day trip south of the border. The Tweed Coast offers good food, great sights and more family fun than you could poke a stick at.

The North
On a day trip to the Sunshine Coast, you can take in everything from lush hinterland leafiness to a bright, warm beach – and everything in between. Our sister magazine scout has profiled two must-see Sunny Coast destinations.

The West
Looking for a country escape that you can do in a day from your homebase? Toowoomba residents are in no doubt that they live in one of the most picturesque parts of our country, and scout has explained how to get out and explore it with them this autumn and winter.

Take a hike
Winter is a great chance to take a sign of relief after the stinking heat of summer, making it the best time of the year to explore the great outdoors. Get a sweat on and hit the trails with the whole family in tow!

haven is all about family, life and style in Brisbane's inner city suburbs, the Gold Coast, south to Byron Bay. We have been keeping parents in the know for over eight years, with fun, fresh and helpful stories that they can take tips from or treasure in their own library.
