Tonal dressing could seriously be your new best friend.

Blocking flattering colours from head to toe can have a slimming effect on the body. Oh yeah, we all love that! Tonal dressing doesn’t need to be boring, instead it’s all about mixing texture and keeping the tone neutral and well suited to YOU.

Tonal dressing is one of the chicest and most achievable ways to lift your casual look with little effort required. What it does is tricks the eye and creates a slimming illusion. Smoke and mirrors baby! The eye will move from top to bottom with ease instead of focusing on a brighter top or patterned bottom and drawing attention to one particular place on the body.

Tonal dressing is also a great way to extract a few more looks from your basics wardrobe. Remember, the one we’ve been building for the last couple of months????

So the question now is, how do you start?

Start with a colour that works for you and is flattering to your skin tone.

How do you work this out?

When buying clothes, if you’re too busy to try them on (yep, we’re all guilty of this at times!), as a bare minimum you need to hold the item up against your face. Ask yourself- does the item make me look washed out? Or, does the item give me a nice glow?

If it’s the later, the colour is a winner and works for YOU!

Once you’ve chosen your neutral it becomes all about the layering.

We’ve hit some colder weather here on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane but with the day temp still heating up to 24 degrees, opt for lighter layers or a thicker coat that can easily be removed.
