All parents know the struggle of trying to get a young child to go to sleep and the bizarre excuses all kids make to avoid going to bed.

This December QPAC presents Emily Brown and the Thing, which tells the story of a girl who cannot get to sleep because something monstrous is keeping her awake.

Late one evening, Emily Brown and her old grey rabbit Stanley find a Thing crying outside their window. He has lost his cuddly and absolutely cannot get to sleep without it!

On a mission to help the Thing, Emily and Stanley bravely set off into the Dark and Scary Wood in search of the missing cuddly. On their return they find that the Thing cannot sleep without hot milk or his tickly cough medicine as well.

The question remains… What is really troubling the Thing – and will anyone ever get to sleep?

Emily Brown and the Thing demonstrates the importance of talking with children and finding out what is really going on in their complex imaginations rather than leaving them in their rooms to sort it out.

Production company Tall Stories, creators of The Gruffalo and The Snail and the Whale, bring their highly acclaimed production Emily Brown and the Thing to Brisbane. It is an imaginative adaptation of the much-loved book by the award-winning duo Cressida Cowell and Neal Layton.

Emily Brown and the Thing will run from December 12 to 23 in the newly refurbished Cremorne Theatre. As the play unravels it is told with original music, beautiful puppetry, physical storytelling and lots of comedy.
