It seems like our entire Instagram feed is filled with travel snaps, and we’re struck down with a bad case of wanderlust. No matter how much money you have to spend or time you can take off, we might just have a holiday idea for you…

We’re totally loyal to the Gold Coast, but we have to admit that the Sunshine Coast has plenty to offer, too. Noosa, for example, is the ultimate family-friendly holiday destination. It’s small so everything is within walking distance – restaurants, national park hikes and safe beaches. There’s also great shopping, fun adventures to be had on the water and beautiful weather seemingly year-round. Click here for more.

Perth is about as far as you can get from the Gold Coast without leaving the country, so traveling there is a pretty big undertaking – especially with kids. But with turquoise water, a beautiful climate and delicious food (some say it rivals Melbourne!) it’s definitely worth it. Whether you stay in the city centre or find accommodation in one of the many beachside suburbs, there are plenty of adventures to be had. Did we mention you can snap selfies with quokkas on nearby Rottnest Island? Need we go on?

Now that overseas travel is back on the menu, it’s time to start exploring the world again. But you don’t need to spend a fortune or travel far, far away to have a great family holiday – Malaysia is around 10-hours away and won’t break the bank. With island destinations like Penang, Redang and the Perhentians, not to mention plenty of fun to be had in bustling Kuala Lumpur, it’s the perfect mix of fun and relaxation.

With a tagline like ‘Just Paradise’, you might fear that Lord Howe Island couldn’t quite live up to the hype. But, with its crystal-clear waters, towering green cliffs and abundance of things to do – whether it’s meeting the native wildlife, indulging in a massage or gourmet dinner or exploring by foot or flipper – you’ll realise that Lord Howe Island’s ‘Just Paradise’ label is absolutely fitting.

Grab your tent and sleeping bags and head to New South Wales for the ultimate family camping adventure. Just south of Angourie, but before Brooms Head, Yuraygir National Park promises picturesque camping complete with kangaroos. While there are a few campsites to choose from within the national park, we personally recommend the Lake Arragan and Red Cliff campgrounds if you’re looking for a relaxing, beachfront camping getaway.

Go bush with all the creature comforts at a cabin – there are plenty to be found near the Gold Coast. Just take Mouses House, nestled in Springbrook National Park, take your pick from 14 chalet cabins – all of which are complete with spa baths, cozy cabin vibes and a fireplace if you happen to get cold. There are plenty of others to choose from, too. Click here for our favourite winter cabins.

haven is all about family, life and style in Brisbane's inner city suburbs, the Gold Coast, south to Byron Bay. We have been keeping parents in the know for over eight years, with fun, fresh and helpful stories that they can take tips from or treasure in their own library.
