Yes, there were high fives all around haven HQ this month as we celebrated publishing our family magazine for FIVE years! That’s 57 print issues and well over 2700 pages of storytelling. So, let me take you back to the beginning and tell you a bit about our story…
Some of you may remember a boutique website called ‘savvy mama’ – this was my first foray in publishing that started with a very small budget after my second child was born in 2008. We shared mainly local stories, tips and tales for mums on the go and a weekly family friendly ‘What’s On’ listing for the Gold Coast. A couple years later, a local magazine publisher offered an opportunity to launch a new kids’ magazine as a joint venture. I jumped at the chance and Coast Kids was born. Unfortunately the partnership didn’t work out and the publisher closed their doors soon after.
It may have been hormones (as I was days away from having my third child), however, we made a plan to keep the magazine in circulation and rebranded it Coast Kids GC. The following year, a fresh look and new name came and it has stuck – haven for families. We expanded to Brisbane and Byron Bay, rebranded our digital sister ‘savvy mama’ into haven’s weekly eHub newsletter and rebuilt our website (again!).
So where to from here? With such a motivated, supportive and ambitious team behind me at haven, we will continue to improve and grow each and every issue. While our digital following is growing rapidly, it’s the print magazine we share at more than 1000 locations between Brisbane and Byron Bay every month that truly radiates our vibe and looks ace on coffee tables! While we love our print mag, we’re getting techy with it and will make sure you can save your haven library on your iPad or mobile device for years to come. Our creative sides are also blossoming with the launch of haven creative, a boutique marketing and design agency offering magazine publishing, marketing, design and print.
Now I just LOVE this issue! Sure it feels extra special celebrating a milestone, but this edition is just full of awesomeness! I’m loving the fashion, travel, upcoming events, lunchbox inspo, education tips, personal profiles and all the February/Valentine’s Day love-inspired topics. Maybe now that the kids are back at school, hopefully we all can get our regular date nights on! Read on and hope you love it too!
At the end of the day, we adore your support and just love sharing this parenthood journey with you. Thank you!
