The AFL’s strangest season is about to come to a head, with Brisbane hosting the Grand Final for the very first time. Where will you be when it all goes down?

Even if you missed out on tickets to the game itself (don’t worry, they were hard to come by) there are plenty of places around town – and even down on the Gold Coast – to get in on the action.

The Grand Final excitement won’t just be limited to the Gabba – there are a whole host of COVID-safe experiences going on throughout the city over the coming days!

On Saturday October 24, from 4pm until 10pm, enjoy an afternoon of live entertainment and food and drinks before the opening bounce of the 2020 Toyota AFL Grand Final on the big screen. Grab a picnic rug and bring the family along for a great night of family fun! Tickets are free, but reservations are essential.

Brisbane City Botanic Gardens
It’s full-blown footy fever at the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens, where you can enjoy NAB AFL Auskick Clinics featuring player appearances, food, footy on the big screen, a Rebel pop-up shop, and activities for the whole family to enjoy. Registrations will open soon to secure your place in the Auskick Clinics. It’s all happening on Thursday October 22 (9am until 3pm), Friday October 23 (9am until 3pm), and Saturday October 24 (9am until 10pm).

South Bank
Enjoy Footy Festival activities under the sun at Streets Beach in South Bank! Soak up the relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, music before watching the uniquely Brisbane 2020 Toyota AFL Grand Final on the big screen. It’s all happening on Saturday October 24 from 4pm until 10pm.

Queen Street Mall
The Queen Street Mall is coming to life during Grand Final Week, with the City Sounds program stretching from now until the Grand Final! You can’t miss the brightly-coloured Mall, which is painted in AFL colours to celebrate the lead up to the big game.

The Gabba may be getting all of the Grand Final glory, but watching the game live at Metricon Stadium is the next best thing! From 4pm until 10pm on Saturday October 24, Metricon Stadium at Carrara will come alive for a Footy Festival like no other. Enjoy Auskick activities for the kids, chow down on footy fare and enjoy the music and pre-match entertainment, all before watching the game live at the stadium from 6.30pm. Bring your picnic rug, wear your team colours and revel in Queensland’s first ever AFL Grand Final – it’s sure to be a game for the history books! Entry is free, though tickets are limited.

If you’re not keen to get in on the excitement around town, why not host your own Grand Final viewing party at home? You can decorate the house in your team’s colours, invite your friends and family and chow down on delicious footy-themed food. Here are three of our favourite recipes!

Aussie Sausage Rolls
If there’s one thing more Aussie than an AFL Grand Final, it’s a sausage roll. Fill them with classic beef mince or go for something a little bit fancy like spinach and ricotta. This recipe by Curtis Stone is one of our favourites.

Footy cob loaf
We’ll be the first ones to admit that this recipe replicates an American football, but we reckon you could find an oval-shaped loaf of sourdough that would look more like an AFL ball!

Chocolate Footy Friands
End the evening on a sweet note – no matter which team takes home the cup – with these ‘footy friands’, courtesy of Cadbury! The red and white icing artwork makes them look like little Sherrins, which your guests (and the kids) will love.
