Eating out on the Gold Coast is all about alfresco, fresh air and sunshine. Until it’s not. When the temperature plummets (below 20C!) our inner grizzly bears seek warmth, comfort food and hibernation. Where to go when you want to snuggle in, fill your belly and take the kids along for the ride? The Loose Moose in Broadbeach is your winter haven.

 

On a cold and windy mid-week night, we hit up this brand new meat lovers’ mothership with fussy eaters in tow. And boy, did it blow us away. From the steampunk sexy fitout to the amazingly comprehensive menu, this is a must-do on the Gold Coast dining scene.

 

The kids made instant friends with bar mascot Bruce the Moose, we made happy acquaintance with our inner carnivores, and our attentive wait staff became foodie amigos, with solid recommendations to tempt our tastebuds. Think exceptional service, where nothing was too much hassle – including changing tables (our smallest reviewer slid off the street-front barstool at our first attempt, but happily snuggled into the lush leather banquette) and customising the kids’ menu items to suit their fussy palates (no slaw for the princess, but the Kentucky Chook Slider sans salad was an absolute hit. Winner winner, chicken dinner!)

 

Dining out with kids is notoriously hard, especially if you want the menu to encompass more than nuggets and chips (and you favour something a little more sophisticated for the adults in the group). The Loose Moose has you covered, as you’d expect when Head Chef and Co-Owner Michael Dragosevic (formerly of Koi) has two young girls himself. The kids’ menu features salt and pepper squid, wagyu bolognaise and fillet steak (and the desserts will blow the kids’ minds – Snickers ice cream cake? Yasss!).

 

Meanwhile the grown-ups feasted like caveman kings. Jalapeno poppers are given a fresh twist with spinach, pine nut and Persian fetta. The burger menu is too extensive for just one visit – we’re already planning our next feast. And there’s the Build Your Own Burger option should you not find something to tickle your fancy.

 

And then there’s the wings. Oooh daddy, the options here! From the ‘Sweet Jesus’ (maple and smokey BBQ) to the ‘Kentucky’ (maple, bourbon, sriracha and smokey BBQ) to the ‘A#s Burner’ with scorpion chilli, there is something for everyone’s palate. From sweet and mild to the boys night out-worthy Volcanic A#s Burner (incorporating the hottest chilli in the world), you’ll get your fill here.

 

The Loose Moose is a welcome addition to the foodie vanguard of Broadbeach. Perfect for after-work drinks at the bar with some tasters to warm you up, to a Wings & Whiskey night out, to a quickie family dinner, this is the perfect place to hunker down, order up and prepare to hibernate the winter’s night away with a belly full of deliciousness.
