For those of you who don’t know — the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Byron Bay city libraries have a range of different activities and programs for children of all ages to enjoy. They are all free events, and most occur on a weekly basis so it’s a fantastic way to get children out of the house and change up their routine. There is an assortment of storytime reading, academic learning, rhyming and even dancing sessions!

Baby Rhyme Time
Baby Rhyme Time is an interactive activity for children aged 0 – 2 years old and is a fun session full of rhyming, singing and talking with your baby. Bookings are not required.
Calm on the Carpet
After all the singing, clapping and dancing at Baby Rhyme Time, Calm on the Carpet gives the littlies (and the parents!) a chance to calm down and relax.
Storytime is designed for children to develop a love for books and reading from a young age. The interactive storytimes will stimulate young minds and provide parents and carers with ideas to take home. Storytime is recommended for children aged three to five years old.
STEAM for Kids
STEAM is a program designed for children aged six to 12 years old and allows them to explore the worlds of coding, robotics, science, digital art, makerspaces and even more at your local library. The STEAM programs revolve around science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics and is a chance for children to engage with new technologies, learn about interesting topics within science and to get creative and innovative. There is also an after-hours lecture series that includes Lego sessions, Minecraft and coding clubs.
Toddler Time is for children aged three to five years old and is a fun session of dancing, singing and clapping. Children can learn action rhymes and songs to assist with their pre-literacy communication, language and social skills.

Maker Space is recommended for children aged two to seven years old (with their carers) and allows them to unlock their creativity with an abundant range of different craft activities to dive into.
First 5 Forever Chatter Play
This First 5 Forever activity is a fun, play-based session that offers a range of creative resources for children that encourage language and literacy development. Parents or carers can drop in anytime within the hour to play with their child and discover new ways to support early literacy at home. Recommended for children aged five years and younger.
First 5 Forever Children’s Storytime
This is an interactive session for children to explore the magic of stories and includes songs and mark making activities for children aged two to five years old.
Spinners & Fibre Crafters
Children can bring their own arts and craft projects they’ve been working on and work alongside other crafters or can just come to look for creative inspiration!
Babies, Books and Rhymes
Babies, Books and Rhymes provides the opportunity for parents and babies to socialise in a fun session of singing, clapping and dancing. It also includes learning songs and action rhymes to nurture the baby’s pre-literacy, communication, language and social skills. Ideal for babies aged up to one year.

Storytime is designed to be a happy and enjoyable shared experience for carers and their child. It was established for young children to start loving books and the library. It also aids with the development of children’s reading and writing skills and gives them the opportunity to practise listening and cooperate in a group environment.
Baby Bounce is a 20-30-minute activity aimed at infants from 2 months to 2-years old and is designed to introduce babies to the joy of rhythm and rhyme of nursery rhymes, fingers play, poems and songs. The sessions include a combination of singing, clapping, musical instruments, rhymes and lots and lots of fun interaction with your baby!
