It’s almost a wrap on the Gold Coast Film Festival, but the city’s premiere film event is set to go out with a bang. To celebrate the Closing Night of the unmissable event, the Gold Coast Film Festival is hosting a special one-off screening of the post-apocalyptic, ultra fun monster movie ‘Love and Monsters,’ starring ‘Maze Runner’ and ‘Teen Wolf’ star Dylan O’Brien.

Filmed on the Gold Coast and nominated for a 2021 Academy Award for Best Visual effects, ‘Love and Monsters’ delivers enjoyment and entertainment in spades, along with plenty of close encounters of the insect kind.

In the near future, a comet is on a direct path to Earth. No worries – send a few missiles up to deflect the approaching comet and call it a day, right? Wrong. The irradiated pieces drop back to earth and instantly mutate all cold-blooded creatures — cockroaches, worms… just to name a few — into huge, human-hungry monsters.

In this monster-infested world, humans are forced underground to live-in bunkers. When Joel (O’Brien) learns his girlfriend (Jessica Henwick, ‘Game of Thrones’) is just 85 miles away, he taps into his inner hero and starts on the dangerous journey above ground to reconnect with her.

Don’t miss the Closing Night of the Gold Coast Film Festival, on Sunday April 25 at 7pm at HOTA (Home of the Arts). ‘Love and Monsters’ is rated 15+, and tickets are just $17 for adults and $14 for concession.
