This summer, running until the 27th of January, the Gold Coast City Council has organised an ‘Active & Healthy Holiday Program’ for all families to get involved in for little to no cost. It’s a fantastic initiative for kids to be playing outdoors rather than inside on their iPads!
With over 170 free and low-cost activities on offer each week all across the city, there is something for everyone! We have listed some of our favourite activities below:
For the Runners
For those who love running, there is a weekly free 5km park run/walk that is family-friendly and suitable for prams and dogs! There is also a weekly 2km junior parkrun for kids aged four to 14.
For the Yogi’s
For those who want to bring out their inner Yogi, there are free yoga classes that focus on physical practice as well as pranayama (breathing), meditation and philosophy to help you bring balance to your mind, body and spirit and there is also a ‘Dads and kids yoga workshop’ that is a 90-minute journey where they will have fun, learn self-calming techniques through breath and affirmation.
For the Sporty Ones
We know that kids love to change their minds with what sports they want to play, so luckily there are a range of sports to get involved in, such as:
- Skateboard workshops
- Sunday social bike rides
- Table tennis junior fun day
- Swimming laps at Tallebudgera Recreation Centre Pool
- Basketball Summer Holiday Camp
- Training wheel to two wheels
- KDV Junior Golf Camp
- Family fitness sessions
- Stand-up paddle boarding
For the Music and Movie Lovers
For those who love to boogie, there will be DJ parties in the park that will get you motivated and moving! For the movie lovers, you will be able to get cosy under the stars and watch Christmas movies likes Home Alone and The Grinch!
For the Gymnasts
For those who love to tumble and flip, there are fantastic gymnastic holiday programs and even some circus workshops!
For the Adventurous Ones
For those who love a challenge, there are a range of activities that will get your adrenaline running, such as:
- Rock climbing indoor / in the park
- Kayaking trip to Wave Break Island
- Ninja Warrior Course
- Water Wars
For the Arty Ones
For the arty ones or those who want to create a Christmas present from the heart, there are a range of workshops to get involved in, such as:
- Creative kids art workshop
