When it comes to culture hubs on the Gold Coast, you can’t go past our literal Home of the Arts, HOTA!

  • Hiccup | September 8 and 9: A sleepy camper, cheeky quokka and inventive emu awake to discover a koala has come down with a loud case of the hiccups.
  • Kids Take Over | September 27 to October 1: HOTA’s school holidays mini fest will deliver a program bursting indoors and out, just for kids.
  • Rainbow Story Hour | Third Friday every month: Little ones can listen to a story read by a member of our LGBTQIA+ community.

From the modern art on display at GoMA to the unmissable classics in the Queensland Art Gallery, this is one spot you’ll happily spend an entire family day out.

  • The Castles of Tarragindi | From September 9: Children are invited to explore the imaginative artform of the ‘grotesque’ through hands-on and multimedia interactives. 
  • The Alien Others | Now to October 2: Young visitors can see insects and create a postcard inspired by what they see.
  • Gods and Monsters | Now to October 2: Children can learn about Greek mythology through an animation inspired by ancient Greek pottery.

Queensland Museum and SparkLab

Giant dinosaurs, flying whales and a live ‘science bar’ are just a few of the wondrous sights and experiences you’ll discover here.

  • Dinosaurs of Patagonia |Now to October 2: Discover sixteen life-sized skeletons from South America’s Age of Dinosaurs.
  • Insect Agency | From September 15: This brand new exhibition, developed by Queensland Museum, will explore the surprising variety of ways insects do good – for the planet and humanity.
  • Little Learners | Thursdays and Fridays: Get hands-on with real museum objects and specimens and explore galleries and collections through play.

Museum of Brisbane

Not to be confused with the Queensland Museum on the south side of the river, the Museum of Brisbane in Brisbane City Hall offers a world of wonder and learning just waiting to be explored.

  • BYO Baby Tour | Tuesdays: Perfect for parents and their babies, head to MoB for a baby-friendly guided tour of the Museum.
  • Bilingual Storytime | Every other Wednesday: Enjoy a charming picture book read in another language and stay on for a craft activity.
  • Little Artist’s Eye Spy | Permanent: With this free MoB Kids activity sheet, transform your visit into an exciting game of Eye Spy.
