We can’t farewell this frightful year without celebrating Halloween, and why not have some fun on this spook-tacular day, one thing you’ll need to figure out ASAP is what you’ll be wearing.

Whether you’ll be scaring trick or treaters at home or hitting the streets in COVID-safe style, your costume is arguably the most important part of any Halloween celebration.

“The demand for Halloween costumes has grown over 500% over the last ten years, showing the increasing popularity,” says CostumeBox co-founder Nikki Yeaman. ”It is definitely no longer considered an ‘American only’ celebration.”

So whether you head online for your Halloween outfit or fashion something spooky out of what you’ve got at home, it’s time to start thinking about what you and your kids will be wearing on Fright Night.

Start with what you’ve got at home
Whether your kids want to be witches, ghosts or gypsies you should be able to make their costume using things you have around the house. This is great if your craft skills aren’t great or you don’t have a sewing machine.

Make (or buy) a mask
It’s never been more important to wear a mask on Halloween! One of the (admittedly few) silver linings of the pandemic is that face masks feature in a number of classic Halloween outfits, and iIf you’re really strapped for time, they can easily replace a full costume.

Read for inspiration
If you’re stumped for inspiration or your kids can’t decide, look no further than your kids’ bookshelf. A character from their favourite books might be easy to throw together and is another way to show kids that reading rocks!

Head to the shops
Maybe you’re not crafty at all, or you’ve left it to the last minute – no problem! You can always head to the shops and buy a Halloween costume, or head online to order one express. Check out this list of ideas!
