We’ve all seen them – towering monoliths of meat, finger-lickin’ sauce and buns that defy gravity (and your digestive capacity!). We canvassed Brissie and the Coast to bring you haven’s Top 5 Beast-Mode Burgers, putting our tastebuds – and our bodies – on the line, all in the name of research. Order up!
These guys are the undoubted beast-mode kings on the Coast. Their burger challenge currently stands at SIXTEEN beef patties – a serious case of Man v. Food. We smashed the Pablo Escoburger (ground wagyu beef, cheese, guacamole, queso, smoked jalapenos, corn chips and zp sauce) and the K F Ze (crisy fried chicken, smoked jalapenos, ipa beer cheeze sauce and mum’s slaw). Add some of Ze Pickle’s sweet potato fries and a Brookvale Union ginger beer and you have a perfect Sunday afternoon in the sun at Burleigh. Don’t fret Brisbane, Ze Pickle is coming your way in November. And Sydney is on the cards too.
The guys at Burleigh Social are known for their All Press coffee and sweet vibe, but with their recently opened kitchen they are killing it in the burger department too. Head chef Josh Everingham has cooked up a tight menu of mouth watering burgers. The BBQ pulled pork with house slaw is a winner.
Palm Beach’s Lester & Earl has the recipe for success – a hot location with an ocean-view deck, slow-cooked brisket, beef and ribs, and beast-sized meals. The Brisket Roll, while not actually a ‘burger’ still wins our vote with smoked brisket slices in a soft sourdough bun plus house barbeque sauce, garlic aioli, fresh coriander and tangy coleslaw. The Pulled Pork with Carolina mustard, slaw and American cheese feeds both our craving for a beast burger and our insatiable appetite for pulled pork. Can’t get enough? Don’t miss the Pulled Pork Cheesy Fries. Think crispy fries topped with American cheese and mounds of slow-cooked pulled pork.
This Carina burger haunt is so popular they’ve opened a second site at Bridgeman Downs, and orders can take a while. All the better to whet your appetite. We tried the Getta Boss Burger – 12 hour smoked beef brisket, crispy bacon, double cheese, pickle, jalapenos and “That BBQ Sauce”. And the Getta Pulled Pork – pork, slaw and “That BBQ Sauce”. Plus chips. Added INSIDE the burger. Because obviously it wasn’t beastly enough on its own. And yes, we ate the whole thing.
All that meat making you thirsty? Wash it down with an Apple Pie Shake. The geniuses at Getta Burger take an actual slice of fresh pie, ice cream, milk and toppings and blend it into a shake. Then top with whipped cream. They’re not even kidding. And you might not make it to the car park if you actually manage to down the whole thing. Can anyone say “food coma”?
Don’t miss this – the Utter Nutter Burger. Crunchy peanut and cornflake fried chicken (yum!), with honey labne, slaw and chilli mayo. Chur Burger is the business, with locations in Brisbane and Sydney.
