Last month Coomera Anglican College students welcomed multi-instrumentalist and Australian Jazz legend James Morrison to present workshops to selected primary and secondary music students.

Internationally renowned as an entertainer, composer and educator, James Morrison visited the college and two other Gold Coast schools with his Academy of Music Workshops as part of a series of in-school music masterclasses offered by The Arts Centre Gold Coast.

The workshops enabled 60 primary Concert Band students and 44 secondary Senior Concert Band students gain his advice regarding music performance and technique, as well as an education on the art of Jazz music.

Head of Music at Coomera Anglican College and event organiser Liz Smith said she was excited and honoured to have the legendary musician hold workshops with their students.

“We hope to ignite, or in some cases reignite that spark and passion that is sometimes very hard to light in the current lives of busy school students; seeing and speaking with world famous music artists is something that does not happen often,” Ms Smith says.

“Many of our Music Tutors have seen James perform, attended professional development opportunities with him, and have observed workshops with young musicians.

“He truly is an inspirational artist who cares for the future growth of younger musicians.”
