LAUGHING KIDS LEARN
Kate is a primary school teacher by trade who has taught for nearly 10 years in various primary schools and also worked as a literacy and numeracy coordinator. Currently though, Kate is a “proud stay at home mum” which is how the Laughing Kids Learn blog came from.
“A friend with a newborn was inspired by all the simple play ideas I shared with her during our catch ups,” Kate recalls. “She suggested I write a blog so that she and her other mummy friends could follow along. I was keen but had no idea what a blog was, quite seriously! I figured if no one read it then it would just become be a great way to document all the fun I had with my babies.”
That was back in 2012. Since then, Kate has documented all types of interesting and educational bits and bobs while telling the story of raising two girls, nicknamed Possum (pictured above with Kate) and Boo. She’s also amassed more than 47,000 followers on Facebook.
“Teaching children and supporting parents is my passion,” she says. “My teaching philosophy has always been ‘Laughing Kids Learn’. It is with the idea that children, when engaged in fun and interactive tasks, will achieve a deeper level of thinking and gain more from the learning experience. I value the power in children learning through play.”
Among Kate’s fave play ideas are fairy dough, magic milk and spaghetti play – with instructions on her website.
