As parents, we tend to trust the organisations that care for our children – whether they’re daycare centres, sporting clubs or schools – and we often assume that organisations are doing what is required of them to keep our kids safe. But how do we know that we’ve chosen the best, safest organisations to care for our kids? Child safety and wellbeing group ChildSafe recently launched a free resource for parents, sharing the five questions we should be asking various children’s organisations about their child safety policies and procedures. By empowering parents with simple questions about key practices children’s organisations should be following, ChildSafe hopes to give parent’s peace of mind while also putting pressure on organisations to ensure their policies and procedures are up to date. The questions address staff child safety training, the existence of child safe policies, the involvement of children in knowing about their own safety, data storage and child complaint processes. ChildSafe are starting a child safety revolution, and they’re imploring parents to get involved, too.
