Mother’s Day isn’t all about being showered in gifts – this coming Sunday, celebrate Mother’s Day with a Mother’s ‘Date’ as well! We’ve got three ways to spend your special day, whether it’s with family, friends or your own mum.

James Street, Fortitude Valley
Long heralded as the hub of high-end fashion in Brisbane, James Street has become a destination in and of itself. The tree-lined street is peppered with luxurious retailers like Scanlan Theodore, Gorman and Zimmerman and intriguing boutiques to explore – Calexico and Maryon’s Shoes are two of our favourites – and is certainly the destination of choice for mums who are keen to shop it up on their special day. Make it a stay-cation and book into the new Calile Hotel, which has quickly gained a reputation as one of Brisbane’s ‘must stay’ venues. With Hellenika – the Nobby Beach staple that has recently ventured north to Brisbane – and plenty of poolside drinking and dining options on-site, you’ll be happy not to leave the Calile all weekend long. But, if you do venture outside, you’ll be treated to a number of other mouth-watering restaurants – we’d recommend Bucci, Gerard’s Bistro or Harvey’s – and pumping nightlife spots. That’s right, James Street isn’t just for shopping marathons – it makes for an excellent bar crawl destination, too, starting at Cru Bar in the north-west and drinking your way down to Sixes and Sevens. To rejuvenate the next morning, pay a visit to El Rosa by Arc and Family Pots. The pink palette and tropical atmosphere will banish any hangover in no time.

Road trip to Byron
If you or your mum are more of a fan of the open air, hop in the car and venture south for the day to celebrate Mother’s Day! There’s nothing like a Byron Bay adventure to reset the soul, and the retail and dining options in this world-famous seaside town will make it tough to head home at the end of the day. On your way down, make sure to stop off at Harvest Newrybar for breakfast – the delicious bakery/deli/restaurant that serves up the best local food and Insta-worthy dishes. Then, head into Byron and straight to the beach. There are so many awesome beaches to choose from, from the main drag to Wategoes and Tallows. Once you’re sufficiently salty and sun-kissed, grab lunch at one of the many great dining options in town. Rae’s at Wategoes and the picture-perfect Mez Club are two ultimate fancy lunch spots, but there are other, more casual places to go, too. There’s a new El Camino Cantina on the main street, but the falafels at Orgasmic Food are also, quite literally, orgasmic. Shop up a storm post-lunch at boho-luxe retailers Arnhem, Spell & the Gypsy Collective and Miss Brown’s Vintage. Then, head home via The Farm for a sunflower selfie with mum (and maybe a cold kombucha, too).

On the Tweed
For the entire month of May, Tweed City Shopping Centre is encouraging families to spoil mum in-centre at their many retail, entertainment and dining options – starting with a dinner date and movie! Take Mum to Girls Night Out and enjoy that month’s brand-new film screening at HOYTS Tweed City. Your $33 ticket includes a beauty parcel full of free goodies, to ensure the Mother’s Day pampering continues long after the credits roll. Make it a proper date and head to dinner after the film, making the most of dining options such as Beach House Bar & Grill, Grill’d, Mad Mex and San Churro. If we’re talking about a ‘date’, you can’t go past a classic dinner and a movie – and maybe even dessert, too! Then, it’s time to hit the spa. Australian Skin Clinics offer microdermabrasions, micro-needling, and even IPL skin rejuvenations to have you or the mum in your life feeling as good as new. With skin and body transformations starting from as low as $12, you definitely won’t be breaking the budget, either! Tweed City is also home to Unique Nails & Beauty as well as Beauty Shop, which make for excellent stop off points on your salon crawl. At the end of the day, treat yourself or the mum in your life to something special – for the Mum who loves a Sunday sleep in, Bras N Things have lush pyjamas and dressing gowns that you can personalise with Mums initials starting from only $59.95! Homewares lover will be delighted to know that Violet & Moss have a great range of Glasshouse Candles, including award-winning Vanilla Caramel Tahaa candle for just $42.95. There’s all that and more in-store at Tweed City!
