We know the year isn’t over yet, but there’s no time like the present to start planning your holidays next year. We’ve studied the calendar to find out how we can get the most out of our public holidays in 2023, and we’ve decided to share our findings with you.

Australia Day

If you can’t stand the thought of heading back to work after the Christmas holidays, plan to take annual leave later in January. To get time off from January 21 and 29, you would only have to use three annual leave days – January 23, 25 and 27.

Easter and ANZAC Day

How do you turn four days of leave into an 10 day holiday? Simple! Just take off April 11 – 14 and you’ll score yourself a holiday from Good Friday (April 7) until Sunday April 17. Or, for an extended break over Easter and Anzac Day (April 7 to 25), take off April 11 – 14, April 17 – 21 and April 24.

Labour Day

You won’t need to return to work for long after ANZAC Day before you’re treated to another public holiday – and, another excuse to use your annual leave! Queensland’s Labour Day public holiday falls on Monday May 1, meaning you can take the rest of the week off (May 2 – May 5) and get nine days off for the price of four. You could also take off April 24 and 26 – 28 and get 11 days off by taking only four days of leave.

Queen’s Birthday

Much like the Labour Day public holiday, when the Queen’s Birthday public holiday rolls around on Monday October 2, you’ll be able to enjoy a cruisy nine days off with minimal effort. Make sure you take October 3 – 6 off work to get nine days of holidays, from Saturday September 30 until Sunday October 8.

Finally, Christmas – it feels a lifetime away, doesn’t it? But you might want to think ahead, because if you take just three days off from Wednesday December 27 to Friday December 29, you’ll get 10 days off when you factor in the New Year’s Day public holiday.

Now go forth and vacay!
