May. This is the month we annually celebrate motherhood in all her glory. Considering haven is all about family life, it’s only fitting that this issue be overflowing with stories, tips and ideas that will benefit all our beloved mama readers and your respective families.
Did you know, the awesome crew that brings you haven magazine are all mothers juggling careers, deadlines, kids and family life as well? The haven team is blessed with flexible working conditions – an important factor in modern-day parenting. Check out our team’s family snaps (pictured right). We live family and we LOVE it, which is why we feel qualified to bring you this family lifestyle magazine each month and which is also why we so enjoy the beautiful community of family readers we’ve built around it. From our expert contributors to our advertisers and, most importantly, our readers – you are all part of our beloved haven family.
In the making of this edition, it’s been interesting to talk to other mothers from all walks of local life about their individual parenting journeys. Make sure you read our ‘Mum’s the Word’ feature (starting on Page 8). I have been a mum myself for 12 years now and have three children so what will Mother’s Day look like for me in the O’Connor household this year? Well, I am expecting my tribe to organise breakfast, coffee, the Sunday newspaper and endless cuddles from the moment I wake. Let’s hope hubby will splurge and take us out for brunch before we end up at the Gold Coast SUNS game that afternoon (guessing I may end up with a meat pie at the game instead though – ha!). What I would really love as well though, is a voucher for a night away, alone. Sounds odd, but just think about it. Somewhere with room service, a swim-up bar, spa and Wi-Fi – consider it an annual leave day – just 24 hours off would be fab!
And remember on May 14, there is no perfect way to be a mother but a million ways to be a good one.
Happy Mother’s Day!
