A trio of Gold Coast mums have created and launched the Gold Coast Music Awards – and nominations are now open.
The brainchild of Chloe Popa, Amanda Gorman and Samantha Morris, the Gold Coast Music Awards shines the spotlight on our thriving live music scene. Organiser Amanda Gorman says the awards will help to demonstrate the diversity of talent here on the Gold Coast.
“We started to compile a list of musicians and artists working here on the Gold Coast,” she says. “And we realised that the number of people who make a living from the music industry on the Gold Coast is quite large.
“It’s not just musicians either. It’s record labels and live music promoters, venues and restaurants and artists designing CD labels. There are video producers and sound engineers and a whole raft of people who help drive music in paid and unpaid roles.”
Burleigh Brewery has signed on as presenting partner, with the awards scheduled for July 22 to be staged at the iconic venue. Peta Fielding, Burleigh Brewing’s co-founder, says she was thrilled to throw the brewery’s support behind the inaugural awards ceremony.
“The depth and breadth of talent that exists here on the Coast deserves celebrating. We’re planning a classic Gold Coast themed event,” Peta says. “Beanies, boardies and Burleigh beers at the brewery, hopefully under a clear winter’s sky.”
Nominations are now open, ahead of the inaugural Gold Coast Music Awards ceremony on 22 July. For more info and tickets, head to www.gcmusicawards.com.au.
