Big ones, small ones, tall ones, short ones. We all have one – and that’s a mum. Just as people come in all shapes and sizes, mums too don’t ever fit a societal mould. Just ask this bunch of women who are juggling the mother lode.

You don’t get much more ‘nuclear’ than my family. Two working parents, two dependent kids, one dog, bucketloads of debt but, equally, bucketloads of happiness.

The most current Australian Institute of Family Studies research shows the majority of families with children under 18 years of age were ‘intact’ families (73.5 per cent). Almost one in five families were headed by a single parent (19.3 per cent) while step and blended families accounted for less than 6.5 per cent of all families. When I look at my own social network, there are more types of ‘family’ in it than you can count. And while everyone’s family unit and circumstances are different, there’s one thing that ties together all of us women with kids and that’s motherhood.

On the eve of Mother’s Day 2017, haven sat down with a variety of mums to discuss all things motherhood – that hardest job of all. Click below to read what they had to say…

haven is all about family, life and style in Brisbane's inner city suburbs, the Gold Coast, south to Byron Bay. We have been keeping parents in the know for over eight years, with fun, fresh and helpful stories that they can take tips from or treasure in their own library.
