There’s nothing like a global pandemic to change life as we know it, eh? But while social distancing meant simply staying inside for many of us, small business owners were faced with a tremendous challenge: how to continue “business as usual” through highly unusual circumstances.
We chatted to Roz Normal, owner of Pilates & Co., about how her business adapted to not only survive, but thrive!
As a business owner, what was the biggest challenge COVID-19 threw your way?
Closure of the business and no income – how to keep the wheels turning and having some sort of income come in!
What was your biggest learning through it all?
To pivot quickly to engage our community – we have an amazing team of people we work that we call our friends and they all chipped in and helped us go online within 48 hours after shut down!
What is one way your business got creative in order to survive (and hopefully thrive!) during COVID-19?
Going online, of course! Engaging our community and even a few people further afield to stay connected with us and hold tight and we will keep you moving through all of this until we reopen our doors!! We have loved going online and we know our community have loved it too so it is here to stay!
How have the past few months changed your business strategy moving forward?
Prior to shut down we were solely a face to face business – all in studio. Whilst this is what we do best we have done what many fitness businesses have done but we feel we have gone that step further with a library of classes via our website that we will continue to grow. – for the times when you cant get in due to sick child or for the times when we get to travel again!
What does your new normal look like?
The new norm is an even cleaner studio that’s for sure, now we were pretty clean before but we are next level now and we have made sure we are 100% compliant with the Fitness Australia and covid safe guidelines – we want to sure that everyone feels safe in our studio
The new normal also offering zoom sessions, IG lives and of course our prerecorded classes – giving people options to keep them moving and feeling safe in the current times……
