As a society, have we lost the art of the picnic? Drive-thru fast food reigns supreme with our kids but maybe we should get back to basics? Here’s how to put together the perfect picnic…

✱ Opt for reusable plastic tableware to avoid chipping crockery in transit and to be kinder to our environment via reducing single-use plastics. Plus, if you buy some quality plastic tableware and build a picnic kit, you’ll be telling the universe you want to go on picnics again and again!

✱ Two smaller baskets will be easier to carry than one full big one, especially if your picnic spot is far from the car. One insulated basket is a great idea.

✱ Random useful things to throw in your picnic basket that can be easily overlooked: Tea towel, salt and pepper, cooking oil (for BBQs), a roll of paper towel (for cleaning and using as napkins) and insect repellent.

✱ Taking your picnicing game next level? Pack a small fold- up table and portable sound/ Bluetooth speaker.

haven is all about family, life and style in Brisbane's inner city suburbs, the Gold Coast, south to Byron Bay. We have been keeping parents in the know for over eight years, with fun, fresh and helpful stories that they can take tips from or treasure in their own library.
