Ever wanted to party with Mozart and an accordionist? On July 12 & 13, you can! The Gold Coast’s HOTA and the Circa Ensemble bring you a world-first with ‘Wolfgang’, a zany, jovial and family-friendly take on the classical compositions of the one and only Wolfgang Mozart.
We know what you’re thinking – a kids show about Mozart? How does that work? Live music, circus tricks and party hats – that’s how. Big, bright, colourful and loud, Wolfgang is sure to charm the pants off parents and delight kids with its amazing melodies and incredible stunts that will tumble off the stage right before your very eyes.
“Mozart’s tunes are timeless. Children have been exposed to his music their whole life, often without realising,” says Circa Marketing Coordinator Samuel Boyd. “For example, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is actually a Mozart piece. His music still fits and is current today and appeals to everyone, so the show is a testament to that.”
Audiences will meet ‘ratbag’ Mozart, a live accordionist and the party’s host, a girl who is whisked away by Mozart to explore the world in a new and exciting way. There will be balancing acts, flips, twirls and even a bit of magic.
Circa acrobats Paul and Kat O’Keeffe are incredibly talented and have a long history with the company. They are joined on stage by classically trained Gareth Chin who has toured as a musician internationally and brings Mozart’s music into vibrant and vivacious life. It’s a thrilling trio to have on stage together.
The show will make its world premiere in Logan in early July before coming down to HOTA, making Gold Coasters some of the first people in the world to react to the theatricality and joviality that is ‘Wolfgang’. From there, the show will have a season at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, then come back to Australia before finishing up at the prestigious Barbican Centre in London.
Don’t miss out on the action! There are still tickets available for both sessions, so head to www.hota.com.au/theatre/wolfgang-circa to secure your spot.
