HOTA is the place to be for families on the Gold Coast – especially these school holidays. Check out just a few of the fun (and even free) activities on offer!
Kids Take Over
HOTA’s aptly-named mini fest ‘Kids Take Over’ delivers a bursting program of indoor and outdoor activities to the city’s literal home of the arts. Designed for kids, by kids, Kids Take Over will feature a combination of free and ticketed workshops, visual arts experiences, performances and everything in between. Whether you’re looking to make memories, bust boredom or get creative, HOTA is the place to be for kids under 12. It’s all happening from September 19 to 25 as part of their annual WONDER program. Don’t miss goat yoga, DJ Skool and a dinosaur or two.
We especially can’t wait for…
Erth’s Prehistoric World
Ancient creatures from land and sea come together in one out-of-this-world show. Erth’s Prehistoric World brings together theatrical magic and charm: you’ll journey to the bottom of the ocean to discover ancient bioluminescent creatures and incredible marine reptiles, and then back to dry land to witness some of the most amazing dinosaurs to have ever walked this Earth. Prepare to experience the creatures of your imagination, brought to life on stage in an enthralling new show.
Pop on your thinking hat, unlock your imagination and be prepared to follow the clues to find the lost creature of HOTA lands. After collecting your passport and the first clue at the HOTA Cafe Terrace, your adventure begins. Complete six workshops and activities with your family and friends, starting and finishing at any time (even on different days, if you desire!). Just collect all the clues at any time between 10am and 2pm, Thursday September 22 and Saturday September 24.
When it comes to free school holiday fun, look no further than…
Premiering for the first time on the Gold Coast, Alcazar (which means fortress or palace in Spanish) is a huge glowing structure made up of three circular inflatable archways, growing higher on each level. Atelier Sisu is the design studio behind the piece, bringing their style of ‘art-chitecture’ installations to the Outdoor Stage for 10 days from September 16 to 25. Step through and look up through the blends of light and colour, looking out to the unmissable architecture of both the Outdoor Stage and the HOTA Gallery.
On Sunday September 25, don’t miss a free day of family entertainment on the Outdoor Stage. Family Fiesta will celebrate the last day of Kids Take Over and the last day of HOTA’s annual WONDER program. The day begins with Goat Yoga at the Outdoor Stage (so you know it’s going to be good!), followed by HOTA’s weekly Farmer’s Markets, Mini Markets run by kids, Moroccan tile painting, craft, anime, and stop-motion animation workshops, circus performances, live music and live music.
