It’s the last month of summer, but there’s no end in sight to the hazy, steamy days. Humidity, relentless heat and back-to-school brain fade can mean the kids are wiped out by Saturday, and tempers are frayed.  If you’ve exhausted the gamut of indoor, air-conditioned play, head outdoors and make a splash with our hot spots to keep the kids cool.

COOL POOLS

We checked out Brisbane’s cool pools – grab your goggles, slap on the sunscreen and make a day of it at our top picks:

Manly Swimming PoolManly Pool – this bayside pool with tube slide, fully fenced toddler’s pool with water play features and 25m pool with disabled access ramp is a hit with locals and visitors alike. Heated all year round, Manly Pool wins bonus points for its ideal position – parking is easy, the Esplanade calls for a post-swim bike ride or scoot, and the bay breezes from its waterfront location take the sting out of a February scorcher.

Newmarket Pool – a splashtastic haven on the northside, Newmarket Pool is ideal for kids of all ages. Think children’s leisure pool with play features and slides, shaded wading pool, 50m heated Olympic pool and inflatable water play equipment.

Yeronga Park Swimming Complex – with indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, electric BBQs, shady areas to relax, and a swim shop and coffee shop, this is one of Brisbane’s best pools. The FREE Little Stars program is tailor-made to introduce babies 3-6 months to the water, and a weekday child minding service means you can swim, join the aqua aerobics class or just float around in peace.

FLOATING FUN

AquaSplash – dive in for floating, splashing, climbing, smashing good fun at this inflatable water park in Broadwater Parklands, Southport. With age-appropriate water activities from littlies to grown-ups, this is fast becoming a fave party venue.

ROCK STAR ROCK POOLS

Head 15 minutes inland from the Coast to the Currumbin Rock Pools for a picnic, play and dip in the cool waters of this sweet swimming spot. A natural beauty and Gold Coast icon, this is perfectly peaceful way to cool off this weekend.
