They had me at ‘welcome’, winning me over with a glass of champagne and our room keys to kick-start our stay-cation in paradise. Every parent with a large suitcase, rolling suitcase of toys, beach bag and three kids in tow could use a drink to start a holiday – even if it was just an overnight trip! (and yes we tend to over pack!)

A perk of publishing is a media famil (a term used to get familiar with a product or service) and we certainly got a great fix of Surfers Paradise, staying at the Marriott Resort & Spa, which has the whole family pumped for Kids Week (coming September 17 to 23 in Surfers Paradise).

IMG_1255Less than a 10 kilometre road trip (no fights, no food or toilet stops!) and we were poolside, snorkels and fins adorned scoping out the amazing pool full of tropical fish. Sand between our toes and a good book – this was a Sunday you would wish for every week! The kids loved the waterslides and spent hours pool hopping and relaxing (life is tough after all when you are in primary school).

Enough relaxing, we had a city to explore! We watched the sun set from the bubble bath (did we mention the sublime views!?) and put our walking shoes on to adventure our way through Surfers Paradise on a food crawl.

First for some adventure at the Infinity attraction, we had never been before so it was great to let the kids lead us through the maze of light beams, mirrored walls and squishy floors. We dined on pizza at Vapiano’s balcony overlooking a great salsa set by one local dance company right in the middle of Cavill Ave. The vibes were electric and who knew we were missing all this fun when we were usually tucked up at home in front of the tube watching 60 minutes!

A sweet fix to end our evening at San Churro included hot brownies smothered in ice cream, churros, sundaes and a hot chocolate for mum! The sugar coma set in and it was time for bed …

IMG_1238It’s not every week you start your Monday at penthouse level with a chef manning an omelette station (if only they did packed lunches!) so we certainly took advantage of the retreat experience, breaky buffet and the view to kick off our week.

The Marriott Vacation Club and Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa are presenting partners at this year’s Kids Week. You and the whole family can enjoy FREE entertainment including headline act Paw Patrol! Check out daily live shows, amusement rides, interactive workshops and more spread throughout the Surfers Paradise precinct. Doing its part to foster the next generation of Aussie master chefs, Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa will host a Kids Sushi Making Class at their renowned Misono Japanese Steakhouse on Tuesday 20 September.
