An all new family-friendly, fun-filled mini arts festival is coming to Brisbane, just in time for the school holidays!

Presented by Little Match Productions, PuffinPalooza is aimed at kids aged three to eight and is jam-packed with live music, film and kids’ activities all centred around the beloved Florence Page Jacques poem, ‘There Once Was a Puffin’.

“When the shutdowns happened due to COVID-19, we decided this was the ideal time to ask our artists to create something special from this poem,” says Alicia Cush, co-artistic director of Little Match Productions. “During a time when they would normally be performing on stage, they wrote and created this beautiful show, which we expanded into an entire mini arts festival that became PuffinPalooza.”

The festival will feature an on-stage theatrical concert, plus online access to a whole suite of live-streamed events, workshops, performances, cast Q&As and original works. So while it will only be showing in Toowoomba and at two locations in Brisbane – SunPAC in Sunnybank and the Brisbane Powerhouse – kids all over the country can get in on the fun.

PuffinPalooza will offer online access throughout the tour for anyone in Australia to watch and participate in a high-quality arts experience that includes visual arts, theatre, film and music,” says Alice. “We’ve created a virtual arts festival for kids that parents can completely trust will deliver a safe and interactive online platform for their children to receive a really fabulous experience they would normally enjoy in a theatre environment.”

The highlight of the festival is the international premiere of the live-action and animated short film, ‘There Once Was a Puffin,’ a 20-minute coming of age musical film about sharing, friendship and generosity. It even features brand-new music dreamt up by Brisbane creatives working remotely.

You’ll also get to enjoy the album launch of the soundtrack to the theatre production, ‘The Owl and the Pussycat: a PuffinPalooza LIVE! Concert’ and a host of art activities, a PuffinPaparazzi red-carpet experience and a fun photo station where children can show off their best outfits for Puff’s Beakday.

The PuffinPalooza tour will take place on Saturday 26 September at SunPAC and Sunday 4 October at Brisbane Powerhouse.
