Home of the Arts (HOTA) believes that art thrives when there is collaboration, mentorship and shared ideas and nowhere is that more evident than during the various regular monthly ArtLab workshops for kids.
Little ArtLab provides hands-on creative fun with art activities designed for kids under 5 to enjoy with their parents and carers. Little ones can experiment, play, and create with art-based activities inspired by the Gallery at HOTA collection and current exhibitions. All children must be accompanied by an adult (parents/caregivers are included in their child’s ticket).
In ArtLab, kids aged 5-16 years can explore big ideas while working with a professional artist to create an artwork to take home. In the workshop, kids will learn about different materials, practice and skills through activities responding to current exhibitions and the Gallery at HOTA collection.
ArtLab caters for older creative kids with two sessions tailored for 5-10 years and 11-16 years. Adult ticket prices included in children’s ticket. All children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
What’s coming up
On August 11 (10am and 1pm), experience the ArtLab magic for yourself and stop by Melissa Spratt’s ‘Circle Weaving’ workshop. This Gold Coast artist will show her participants how to play with the colour and feel of wool to weave in circles. The end result will be a stunning platter to store your special things on or hang on the wall. Thanks to QAGOMA, every participant will also receive a bonus tapestry kit to take home and keep up your new weaving skills.
On September 8, join Gold Coast artist Dion Parker to make your own comic book. This ArtLab workshop is prefect for those kids who love to draw. They can learn illustration and character drawing by playing with the expressions and adventures of Dion’s favourite character, Dusty the Dog. Kids will get to take home their own comic book with illustrations and story.
